The University of Texas is apparently deciding to have 2 marching bands in the future. The Longhorn Band and a new one specifically for people who dont want to play their Alma Mater "The Eyes of Texas" because its supposedly racist. South park clown world amazes me more every day. They are starting another band just for people who dont want to play the songs? WTF?

Surely the real "issue" (if there is one) here is whether playing the song is appropriate in the first place and not whether some band geeks have a safe space to be in a band that doesnt play the fucking song.

I don't really see how they can't see the outcome of this decision (which doesnt solve the "problem") coming at them like a freight train....what happens when the "real band" refuses to play the song anyway even though they are "required to"?

Their fucking song is just "Ive been working on the railroad" with Texas lyrics. Its hilarious to me that the "Its racist!" part of it is not based on that fact alone.

I always thought that Kool Menthol was a signature Black cigarette. It was advertised using black models on billboards, benches, on tv and in my dads playboy's. That was their market.

Let's face it, if you live in Texas, you're a racist...

Bob Dylan smoked Kool's. So did my mom, which is probably why I gravitated towards menthol when I started smoking, i.e., when I started stealing them from her...

If it was a black owned company this part of their beef wouldn't be a problem.

Guess it depended on where you lived. Whites were Winstons and Reds.

You are right rat. And because you are right, that is the problem.

As much as the Kool Menthol was a signature Black cigarette, Malt liquor was a signature black alcohol, fried chicken the signature black dinner. And now blacks get angry and say its "racist" to make these cultural distinctions. They are right, it is.

It was always racist to do that. Its just that back in the 1960s or 1970s or whenever Hugh Hefner put that advertisement in your dad's playboys, black people weren't as bothered by it. Now they are.

You can't make any distinctions anymore. To make a distinction (no matter how accurate) is to discriminate. To discriminate is to be racist. So everyone is afraid of saying or doing anything. And we live in a world of fear and ignorance of facts, math, and reality.

As we fully leave the atomic age and get fully engrossed in the information age (where IQ and conscientiousness are everything for making money whereas "hard work" and "obeying the rules" adds far less value financially), the economics of the information age as it exists with "globalism", its much easier on a homogeneous society to thrive because there is far less racism and (as such) far less differences in how the people look at each other and judge each other by what they have and what they don't. In that sense, China is very fortunate as they are extremely homogeneous and the United States is lagging behind because our society is much more diverse. With respect to the information age, diversity is not proving to be a strength.

The most homogeneous of the European states (Sweden, Norway, Finland) are proving to be the most successful ones. And when I say successful they have the least amount of crime, the least amount of rioting and problems, the least amount of bickering and political differences, far and away the most successful schools and education systems, and the most thriving economies. And if you ask a liberal, they will just say that the "socialism" of those states are what makes them successful. They will never-ever dignify their homogeneousness. If you even mention that, they will call you racist. So no open or honest discussions are ever made. And nothing gets done.

I always got the feeling Winstons were the high dollar brand name smokes

growing up with yellow ceilings was enough for me to never start smoking seriously, those cherry tipped cigars were the only thing we'd smoke

well , that and weed

but weed was expensive, so it was self regulating - Thanks Reagan you bastard

Senator Patty Murray blocked the "Cruise Bill" today

cruising has now turned political, cruising. Because the bill was crafted by republicans, Murray blocked it simply because she is a democrat. No other reason. I can say that because all her complaints, all of them, the cruise line industry has already said yes to everything and is doing exactly what the CDC told them to do.

What was the bill supposed to do? Well it was supposed to negate the unchecked power of the CDC because the CDC (people who are appointed, not elected) refuses to allow ports opened in the USA on their own authority. So 3 republican senators from Cruise line states (Florida and Alaska) said its been 14 months now, fuck you CDC, you are taking too long, you have zero accountability, lets create a bill and (hopefully) pass it into law taking away your sole SUBJECTIVE power and authority over keeping the cruise ports, closed. We will put into this bill a series of OBJECTIVE timelines and policies and things the lines must follow, things that the CDC said are important. And if this bill becomes law, and the cruise lines submit to your list of policies, the LAW will open the ports if the CDC refuses to do so.

Nope. Murray nuked that because she is a democrat and is simply against ALL THINGS the moment a republican thinks its a good idea. Wonderful.

Thing is, if just one of the Senators from Florida was a democrat and co-sponsored this bill, they would have passed it into law. That bitch in Washington state is just being a spiteful cvnt. I hope another democrat runs in the primary against her, one that gives a damn about people who work at the cruise terminal in Seattle
