I have a question for AA or Spacer

My sinuses are all out of whack and since I had a bad...bad episode with Afrin abuse last year, I've just suffered without it. Had a doctor give me a 5 day antibiotic treatment and while I can tell it helped, I'm a long way from being right and I don't want to go back now that my insurance sucks. I'm about 4 days past running out of the antibiotic and I'm still draining an unusually high amount.

So I've been using one of those saline wash deals where you rinse out your sinus cavity. I have some leftover erthyromycin (or close to that) antiobiotics so I broke it up into a powder and put that in the rinse instead of saline and shot that up my nose. burned like a sumbitch for a few minutes but this morning I am noticeably better - still not back to normal but better.

Is there a danger in just shooting the antibiotic directly into your sinus cavity? I've read that the antibiotics don't work as well due to the difficulty of them reaching the sinus cavity bacteria so I figured cutting out the middleman was a good idea.

I've been known to snort a line or two--I'll handle this

have you used flonase? (steroids)

you sneezing a lot? taking anything for allergies?

not a big fan of concocting your own mixture to snort but there is limited evidence that your theory is snot that crazy. see what I did there.

actually I have weather related Rhinitis - which is basically - you have allergy like symptoms related to the weather but you aren't allergic to anything specific thing. I've had extensive testing to find out what I'm allergic to and all the tests came back negative. A temperature change of just a few degrees rapidly can lead to sneezing fits for me. Usually in the morning after getting out of a warm bed and starting my day. They have these huge fans at planet fitness. If they are blowing on me while I am on the treadmill I start sneezing and draining and I can't have any vent blowing air on me at work. This problem makes you a real pussy.

I haven't tried Flonaise but predisone is what helped me kick the afrin rebound. What happens to me is pretty regular. Whenever spring comes and the temps keep bouncing around in the 40-60 degree range, I usually get a pretty bad sinus infection until I break down and go to the doctor for medicine. I've tried taking zyrtec-D regularly and it did nothing, before that Claritin. Tylenol severe allergy helps temporarily but doesn't cure me.

The sinus rinse doesn't do anything other than give me a few minutes relief, however I'm well enough now I can lay on my side and breath clearly thru one nostril - which is a big deal. No waking up in the middle of the night with cotton mouth. I have slept thru the night for 2 nights in a row, something I haven't done once in about 4 weeks now.

On the flight down to Dallas when the plane was decelerating, the pressure change made me feel like I had knives stabbing me behind my eyes. It hurt so bad I couldn't even talk to the person next to me. On the return flight I broke down and used Afrin combined with Tylenol and it was much better, but two days later I started blowing out blood clots thru my nose in the morning. For a few days after the flight my forehead felt like it was bruised. That's when I called the doc and asked for anti-biotics.

So anyway - no blood clots today after snorting the antibiotic and fewer instances of me blowing my nose. I'll probably do it again tonight in the hopes that I'm on the path to getting over this until next March.

Thanks for the link - that is encouraging.

I've been reading up off and on about treatment for Rhinitis and basically they say your just shit out of luck - Afrin provides the best relief but you'll burn your sinus cavity up over time not to mention the rebound problem that got me last year.

I'd love to find a doctor that has the right answer but so far, after 4 of 'em, I'm just a medicinal guinea pig and nothing has worked.

They gave me prednisone the time before last when my back was acting up, it was a miracle drug. I thought I wouldn't have to worry about back pain again (leg pain, actually, it's a nerve issue). Then about a month ago it happened again, they gave it to me again (plus a shot) and it didn't seem to work as well. I have to deal with this usually twice a year, usually I just suffer until it straightens itself out, or else go on narcotics, which isn't really a good idea for me (but sometimes I do it anyway). I wish I knew why the steroids worked so well the first time and then hardly no relief the next...

I think this is an overreaction

for god's sake, I bet half of us here, when told someone pee'd in a pool wouldn't get out of the water

----------------
Call it the Big Flush 2, and this time the sequel promises to be much bigger than the original.

Portland officials said Wednesday they are flushing away millions of gallons of treated water for the second time in less than three years because someone urinated into a city reservoir.

In June 2011, the city drained a 7.5 million-gallon reservoir at Mount Tabor in southeast Portland. This time, 38 million gallons from a different reservoir at the same location will be discarded after a 19-year-old was videotaped in the act.

"The basic commandment of the Water Bureau is to provide clean, cold and constant water to its customers," bureau administrator David Shaff said Wednesday. "And the premise behind that is we don't have pee in it."

The open reservoirs hold water that has already been treated and goes directly into mains for distribution to customers.

The urine poses little risk - animals routinely deposit waste without creating a public health crisis - but Shaff said he doesn't want to serve water that was deliberately tainted.

"There is at least a perceived difference from my perspective," Shaff said. "I could be wrong on that, but the reality is our customers don't anticipate drinking water that's been contaminated by some yahoo who decided to pee into a reservoir."

Water-quality test samples have been taken from the reservoir, with the results due Thursday. The water will be drained into the sewage system, eventually reaching a treatment plant before it's dumped into the Columbia River.

In the meantime, Shaff said the city has plenty of water to meet demand.

"It's easy to replace those 38 million gallons of water," Shaff said. "We're not in the arid Southwest. We're not in drought-stricken parts of Texas or Oklahoma."

That's absurd. 12 ounces of piss in 38 million gallons ain't tainting shit. Hell, even several thousand gallons wouldn't do it...

I like his logic that deliberately tainted water is bad, but inadvertently tainted water is nothing to concern yourself with

The cow doesn't know he shit in the water but that kid over there? By god he meant to piss in it!

we have reverse osmosis water filters at our house which pretty much makes our water have no taste - and its very noticeable to me when I drink from a water fountain how much chlorine is in our water around here.

Nothing is going to survive that.

of course when your water comes from the Ohio river, you gotta nuke it pretty hard
