DS — Great summary of the pitiful state of Carolina Basketball. True fans knew this forced baton handoff by Roy would destroy the Program. We’re in a world of trouble, as there’s no way the gutless UNC Administration will move on from Hubert this quickly.

I'd say he has 2 years from here at least
An elite 8 will buy him another 2

I would like to think that Hubert would step down voluntarily if we have a couple more seasons even close to this one...

I wouldn't count on that. They may spin it that way, but I bet he think he deserves at least 5 years to get it right, especially after a title game on his resume

He wouldn't step down after four seasons, but I think he would after five because that would mean his heralded '24 class didn't pan out, recruiting had dropped off and the 24-25 season was a disaster.
It's still far too long, but it's better than nothing.
I think the hand will be forced if 23-24 is a dumpster fire without hope for the future because while expectations will be low for next year -- think Sid Lowe NC State low -- things will be bad enough that even a decent number of sunshine pumpers will be antsy deep down to the point that if that '24 class freshman team flops, things will be really bad.

We caught lightning in a bottle for a fantastic stretch of basketball with Manek shooting the lights out, opening up space. Other than that? It hasn’t been Carolina Basketball since 2019. If Roy thought he was no longer “the guy” to lead the Program, he should not have been allowed complete autonomy to pick his successor. Yet here we are. Again. Just like Dean to Gut led to the Dohnut.
How can a supposedly equal opportunity University continually allow the Men’s Basketball Program to be treated like it’s Augusta National? I’ve never been more down on the Program. At least we knew Dean wouldn’t stand in the way of firing Doherty. Roy will fight the Administration at every attempt to oust Hubert. And even if we overrule King Roy, all Hell breaks loose in the court of public opinion. It’ll be much, much worse than UK and Tubby.

Just have a couple secretaries say that Hubert was yelling at them and they didn't feel like they had a safe work environment...

As far as UNC goes, its not that bad.
Recruiting is where it is at. I can say that because I am now an U-of-A fan. I can say that recruiting in Eastern Europe, that gave us a team that could compete for a national title. Who in college basketball is better than Tubelis?
You just need to hire a coach that can recruit anywhere on the Earth. I think maybe one player on the Arizona roster is from Arizona, maybe one. The rest? Tommy had to comb the earth looking for these guys. And that is hard, takes a lot of energy. So UNC needs a head coach willing to put that level of effort in to make sure they stay relevant.

There's only one State.
The transfer portal has changed everything about recruiting. Today's college sports are just a crap shoot. It's like that at all levels of the NCAA. The Div II coaches here in multiple sports tell me that everything they used to know about recruiting no longer applies. Better be able to figure out quickly who will fit in what you're trying to do and with who you already have instead of worrying about developing talent.

Our white boy from West Virginia, Tyler Nickel, just announced for the transfer portal. The fans are not happy. Here's a post from the thread. I don't know what it means, but I like it...
"Now y’all see why we couldn’t compete in the NIT….erbody dippin…y’all apologize to Hubert lol"

Then UNC fans are idiots. The transfer portal is causing players to switch teams everywhere for no reason. Do UNC fans really think there's something special about their program that would make players want to stay without looking around? No program is special anymore like that.
