IF,,,, the government is going to provide relief during covid, then I think everyone who lost their job due to covid should get some official document with a unique ID on it.

Then they are granted a waiver from paying rent or mortgage and receive the standard unemployment until the pandemic is considered over. That would keep a roof over their head, the lights on and food on the table.

For people who expect to receive rent or mortgage and are effected by this, they submit the unique ID of their renter or person making a house payment, and they are granted relief in the form of a payment or they themselves are granted a waiver on their mortgage payment. They too would get a unique ID that exempts them from certain financial obligations.

This cycle continues up until we get to the banks who own the mortgages and then we collectively say fuck you banks, we bailed you out in 2008 and you repaid the common man with record profits, hoarding cash and executive bonuses, so you get nothing during this crisis.

also I'd put a freeze on credit ratings for anyone that has the unique id.

This idea of just sending out money to the masses is just lazy, inefficient and honestly with the amount we are talking about ...$600? it just seems heartless. With standard unemployment combined with the unique ID approach, they'll continue to get money to buy food and pay utilities. It will be bare bones and they'll have to make sacrifices but they won't be evicted. We'll have stability. And at the same time we will be minimizing the amount of debt we take on in support of this crisis.

For anyone with the unique ID that ends up in the hospital due to Covid, the government puts them on one of the Obamacare insurance plans and pays their premium (and deductible) for 12 months after their release.

and I agree. This is a pandemic, its not some run of the mill downturn in the economy. If the American government isn't there to protect its citizens in a crisis like this, then what the fuck is its purpose? And that isn't some liberal talking point. Its in our constitution - protect the general welfare, secure our posterity


There is a way to do this responsibly with fiscal conservatism , and our government's failure is their inability to provide for the common man without putting their self interest ahead of him.

GOP and Democrats should be held responsible for this.

as a conservative my first reaction is to avoid the government going into massive debt - and that is why I'm pissed at our politicians over this. Their solution is wasteful and insufficient at the same time. That's a unique skillset to have.

Happy that my share of the firm's PPP forgiveness will be nontaxable. Thank you Uncle Sam...
