Yeah, great airport going to DC. The only thing about DCA is that it keeps getting busier. The shittier that Dulles gets, the more folks will try to get flights there. Hope it doesn't get RUINT.

They are all classic. Here's to hoping nobody finds out who Mr. Cody is, so he can keep his job.

Actually, that would not be a great spot for Johnny Appleseed. Not enough sunlight...

But that post does raise the age old question again: Which is wilder, buck wild or hog wild?

As most of you know, I travel a good bit. Planning a trip to Europe this Spring. And I've never done this, but I'm hoping someone here has:

One of the lower cost flights has a 23-hour layover in Amsterdam. I don't have to select that option, though, and can spend a few dollars more and have a more traditional 2-hour layover in Frankfurt. I, however, am intrigued by the Amsterdam layover in that I could turn it into a mini vacation before the main trip (Venice). I have been to Amsterdam before and it is a great city with a vibrant nightlife and some wonderful restaurants.

Anyway, here are my questions:

(1) since this is technically a layover, will my luggage be accessible?

And

(2) how much trouble will I have getting out of the secured area, and - more importantly - back into the secured area? Is this too big of a hassle to even fool with?

23 hours, I'd get out of there - pack a separate bag. You'll go thru customs twice of course but still - I'd get out of there.

I missed a connecting flight at DeGaulle once and I left the airport and came back.

I'm sure yelp can help you find some good Mexican restaurants over there.

Schipol has lockers, if I recall correctly (or maybe I'm thinking of the train station). I haven't been since 2008, but that was post 9/11 so I expect it to still be the case. Take the train into Amsterdam's Central Station and have a ball. I love the people and the vibe. Spring in Holland is a bit annoyingly cold, so keep that in mind...especially if you're hitting Italy afterwards (which has a much less temperamental Spring).

Thanks...yeah it's a great town.

My only concern was getting back into the secure boarding area without a boarding pass. I guess the KLM desk would reissue one.

Thinking about doing a week long road trip just myself in early May. Anyone have suggestions? I have done the California coast trip and somewhat of Colorado already.
