DS & Hedge — Y’all are old school fans like me. We’re in deeeeep k*rzyt. Not only are we going to miss the NCAA Tournament after being preseason #1, we’re going to be worse next year. The only two 2023 recruits (barring a reclass) are ranked #35 & #60. Neither is a lights out shooter. And if Bacot, Love and Davis all leave, 2023-24 will be the first Carolina Basketball team with zero McDonald’s All-Americans since the inception of that game.
Roy Williams royally fucked us with this hiring. And there’s no way he’ll allow a coaching change as long as the University lets him treat the job like a Fambly hardware store.

Bacot, Love and Davis will be back. None of them will be able to make more money anywhere next year than they will at UNC. I'm actually not sure if that's a good thing...
1) This team has no fire. There were moments when they could have pushed the ball and failed to do so.
2) This team has an undersized shooting guard running point, and Davis makes horrible decisions when he drives. Granted, the entire team makes awful decisions on offense.
3) This team does not have a true leader and has no concept of how to play smart basketball as evidenced by
-overall lack of cohesiveness
-inability to block out on a consistent basis
-penchant for stupid turnovers
-defensive lapses / spacing issues / inability to defend screens properly
-refusal to take advantage of favorable situations on offense
-horrible offensive sets
-blowing second half leads in eight of its eleven losses
4) There is no reliable shooter, but yet they keep chunking up shit shots from outside. Defenses collapse because this team sucks from outside, but that’s when you need movement and run high/low sets with your two 6’10” bigs.
5) Larry Nance is not Pete’s father. There is no way his offspring is so flat footed. Larry Nance must feel like Buford T. Justice and wanting to punch Pete’s mother in the mouth.
6) I think Bacot, Davis and Love will leave. The latter two obviously have people in their ear telling them that each is “the man,” and they will see if they can do it better elsewhere whether in the portal, G League and Bumfuck Eastern Europe. Bacot has the ability to catch on with a Euroleague team or one of the other top tier Spanish, Italian, French or German teams. He will make $500k+ and get to work on developing his game against professionals with better coaching.
7) The lack of coaching is appalling.
-There are no meaningful adjustments, and there has been no attempts to hold players accountable by substituting a kid out after a stupid play, quality of the sub be damned a la Coach Smith and Roy.
-Allowing Nance to keep hoisting three’s and not use him to properly substitute for Bacot
-The underutilization of Washington
-Refusal/inability to develop Nickel and Dunn as subs who can be effective bench shooters
8) Hubert’s solution for next season looks like it will be bringing in Cadeau, Jackson and Stevenson (if/when Stevenson commits) early, and that will be a dumpster fire.
I doubt Jay Wright has the fire in his belly to take on such a task, and I don’t know if Nate Oates would leave Bama’s money or pass muster with the administration because of some rumors/innuendo on recruiting issues from what I understand. So, the two best somewhat realistic choices are not on the board. I don’t know if Cronin would want to leave UCLA, but he’s my choice. He may not play a fast paced style or recruit elite five stats, but he can coach his ass off and develop teams. He has been my “realistic” choice for a while, starting before Roy retired, but I don’t think that has a chance either.
Stackhouse was really respected in NBA circles based on his time coaching in the G-League, and while Vandy has been a struggle, that team has won five in a row and looks vastly improved. If Stackhouse keeps showing improvement at Vandy despite the school’s refusal / inability to have a modern athletic department with NIL, I would think he might get a look because he is “family,” but he can’t have anymore incidents where that attitude and temper comes out. I am probably biased here though since he’s from eastern NC, even if he’s from Kinston.
