It sounded like bullshit even before Hanbrough's tweet. UNC was his dream school, Roy didn't offer him, I guess he's still pissed about that...

I don't think Hansbrough would do that to a recruit

Yeah, it just doesn't parse. I've never heard of anything remotely like players openly snubbing a recruit at Carolina or anywhere else, esp. not a local stud who grew up loving the team. There was a lot of chatter going on when he was in high school. First there was his main handler, who hated Roy b/c of some perceived slight, I think Doh had recruited some kid as a freshmen who was also handled by this guy (Cliff somebody, or else last name Clifton (the handler, that is)), and then the kid didn't pan out and when Roy took over he didn't recruit the kid so Cliff(ton) was pissed at Roy. Also there was some shit about Wall being accused of harassing some girl(s) in a parking lot or some vague shit like that, and also I think his grades were a factor. I know there was some very late surge of excitement among the fans when Roy called Wall a few days before the 2009 Final Four, but nothing ever came of it and Wall committed to UK shortly after that. Bottom line was, it was pretty clear very early that he wasn't going to be going to UNC. Not sure why he now feels the need to blame it on something that had nothing to do with why that wasn't going to happen. Finally , we already had Larry Drew in the bag, so why would we still pursue Wall (just kidding about that one)...

It didn’t help that Wall’s family and handler were asking for money like a bunch of hookers the entire time…

As a follow-up to Hedge’s post, Wall’s “advisor” was Brian Clifton, who had a recruit prior to Wall named Eric Wallace. Clifton said Wallace had a commitable offer from Roy/UNC. The kid was one of those players who bloomed early and dominated prep hoops because he was an incredible physical specimen. He was built like a 6-5 football linebacker. He was ranked in the Top 10 nationally at a ridiculously early age (like Seventh Woods). Then the kid started going backwards. He dropped as an eleventh grader and even further as a twelfth grader. He was at Glenn HS in W-S, and Clifton was his AAU coach and handler. Wake Forest, NC State and Roy supposedly offered early. But the more you watched him the less talented he looked. So when the kid tried to commit to UNC, Roy didn’t want him any more. Neither did Wake or State. Clifton always claimed Roy fucked the kid over.

Wallace got a ship to Ohio St. but couldn’t even crack their top 8 rotation. He transferred to DePaul and sat out a year. He still sucked.

He transferred to Seattle and sat out another year. He still sucked.

Clifton always blamed it on Roy.

Yeah, and Clifton also liked to meet up in bathroom's at tournaments and take large envelopes and duffle bags with cash...

The kid who just committed to UNC said he tries to pattern his game after someone going by the moniker SGA. UK fans will be familiar with him, he played one year at UK and averaged 14 points per game. He's averaging over 30 this season in the NBA...

I'd have to check but I don't think SGA went to a final four as a UK player, so there's that

I checked, embarrassing loss to Kansas St.

Seeing a long time fan like eCat have to look up which year SGA played for Kentucky puts this one & done era in perspective. Sure, I remember Marvin Williams and Coby White vividly at Carolina. But I have to sometimes stop and think to recall Brandan Wright (who was fantastic) as part of the same recruiting class as Lawson and Ellington. Same thing with Nassir Little with Coby. And honestly, I have to look up info on Tony Bradley and Day’Ron Sharpe. Cole Anthony? I’ve repressed all memories from the 2020 debacle.

that is the frustrating thing about the OAD in the pro's.

You see Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, SGQ , Fox, killing it in the NBA

but their college career, while good, was pretty pedestrian for the expectations of a blue blood
