They had the wrong apartment. Period.
Court records show that Louisville police obtained a warrant with a no-knock provision for Taylor's apartment approved by Jefferson Circuit Judge Mary Shaw, though police and prosecutors have said that the officers knocked and announced themselves before breaking down the door.

Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has said he heard pounding at the door, but he did not hear anyone announce they were police.

Various Facebook and Twitter posts have claimed that Louisville police went to the wrong apartment the night of Taylor's death when they served the no-knock warrant.

Ben Crump, a Florida-based attorney involved with the Taylor case, wrote on Twitter on May 11 that police "had the wrong address AND their real suspect was already in custody."

The Courier Journal obtained copies of five search warrants Louisville police received March 12 as part of a narcotics investigation.

One was for Taylor's apartment, three were for adjacent homes on Elliott Avenue in the Russell neighborhood and one was for a house on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The Muhammad Ali Boulevard warrant was not executed, although the reason hasn't been made public.

The search warrant for Taylor's home includes her street address, apartment number and photos of her apartment door, which police later broke using a battering ram.

Taylor's name, birth date and social security number are listed on the warrant, alongside the names of the narcotics investigation's main targets, Jamarcus Glover and Adrian Walker.

The search warrant for Taylor and her home explicitly identified her and her address. The Louisville police were not there by mistake. They believed that Taylor had ties to Glover, one of the main suspects in the investigation.

And they believed wrong. They had the warrant for the place but it was based on shitty police work. They werent there to charge her with anything but they ended up killing her.

Glover was using her address as his permanent address and they believed he was supporting his drug trade at her apartment.

They also have tape recording from jail where Glover says she was helping him but he wasn't using 'Bre" anymore

also they weren't asleep, they were watching a movie, and they were both out of bed when the shootings occurred. Breonna was shot in a hallway. I don't think that changes anything, but it does stop the shot while they were asleep, especially since Walker shot a cop in the leg.

I don't think Breonna should have been shot, I don't like the idea of cops busting down doors of people loosely associated with who lives there, but you don't fire a gun at police and not get shot.

I know those cops didn't go over there looking to kill an innocent woman but you have to have accountability for police when their shitty work causes someone to die. And I can't fault her boyfriend for shooting when cops busted down their door if he didn't know they were cops. After all, wouldn't any gun-owning homeowner do the same?

Police have a tough job but part of it is not killing the people they're supposed to protect and serve.

of course, if drugs were legal, this would have never happened.

given the circumstances, I don't blame the boyfriend either- and that's why the no knock warrant is such bullshit, even in this case, they knocked, but its unclear if they identified themselves. But they executed the warrant under the law and took fire. Whether the warrant was valid is a different story.

I guess that is what people can't separate right now.

On a more positive note, there are currently no weather disturbances in the Atlantic. Of course, that means we're just going to pay for this little break come October.

there is the flaw in your thinking

The FCC, HUD, CDC, SEC, VA, EPA - all supposed to be non political, yet politicians control their money and who is assigned to run them.

and you think turning over a trillion dollar a year industry to be regulated and served the government is going to help people.

Think about this - take the existing private health care industry out of the picture - the for profit, capitalism to the hilt health care industry and then think about how well Medicare and Medicaid would be run. Its like saying the free lunch program works so well the government should be responsible for feeding everyone.
You missed 99% of what I was saying. Our healthcare system couldn't be doing any worse statistically, and guess what the reason for that is? I'll give you a hint. It ain't socialism.

oh it very well could be - think shortage of doctors for general practice, regulated medicine to the point that no one does R&D and 6 months wait for necessary surgery.

"Canadians who need medically necessary surgeries waited longer than ever for treatment — with average wait times hitting 20 weeks, a new Fraser Institute report concludes." - that report was just 3 years ago

which is why many Canadians come to America for surgery they consider immediate

what causes that? hint: it ain't capitalism

Logan says if you need major surgery, go to the Phillipines. Even with the flight, it'll come out a fraction of the cost here with our shitty care. Our local hospital is a death camp. Axe anybody around here.

"goddamn, when are we going to start mowing these motherfuckers down?"

I think that's the reason cops are being shot now. If you plant ice, you're going to harvest wind...

Yeah, and don't bust down somebody's door and not expect to get shot either. Like Stu said, if drugs were legal, none of this shit would be happening. Men with guns busting down doors and whatnot, all b/c of "drugs." But hey, I know you don't want your car getting broke into, so it's all OK. Ironically enough, if drugs were legal, there wouldn't be any need to break into your car either...

The police were at her door knocking long enough that a neighbor came out and told them to quit making so much damn noise. The boyfriend may have been confused on his part about who was there, but not because the police didn't give them time to answer. They kicked in the door because the people on the other side weren't going to answer in a timely manner. Considering the cops had a no knock warrant and didn't use it shows they weren't anticipating any issues. The neighbor who complained has confirmed the cops did knock and announce.

-----------------------------

In it, Mattingly described how he would be the officer knocking on the door of the apartment that night. The officers got in place, and banged on the door, he said.

"We didn't announce the first couple because our intent was not to hit the door," Mattingly said. "Our intent was to give her plenty of time to come to the door because she was probably there alone."

Mattingly banged on the door. No response, he said. He banged again, and still got no response.

"At that point we start announcing ourselves," he said. "'Police! Please come to the door. Police! We have a search warrant.'"

Mattingly said a neighbor upstairs started arguing with officers. As officers told the man to go back inside, Mattingly continued to knock on the door.

No one would blame him if in a fit of hopelessness he decided to end it all. I know I wouldn't...
