and what is that talk? Seriously, do what they say, keep your hands on the steering wheel?

its the same thing I do when I get pulled over, and I've had the same talk with my kids.

Oh come the fuck on. You grip the steering wheel when a LEO walks up to your window? Because you need the cop to see your hands? They actually tell you to do that - "show your hands"?

You want to be taken seriously and then you post that bs.

acrtually not only do I grip the steering wheel but I also have my drivers license between my index finger and middle finger. If its night, I turn my dome light on.

you'd be surprised how the cop treats you when he sees that you are ready to cooperate.

I've never had a cop tell me to show my hands - because I know how to act when I get pulled over.

I guess that just doesn't occur to some people that they are in a non-leveraged position.

In 1956, in Little Rock , Arkansas, my dad, drunk off his ass decided that 3 policemen were harassing him for no good reason, so he took off his belt, wrapped it around his hand so the buckle was covering his knuckles and socked the cop in the jaw. They proceeded to beat the shit out of him with night sticks then take him to hospital, then to jail where he spent the weekend. They let him go , he said, because of his war record, the beating he got and his remorse when he sobered up. I tell that story because he told me at a young age, you'll get your ass whupped if you fuck around with police, and even if I know I'm in the right and a cop is wrong, you wait to win your battle in court, not in the street.

In todays era, does that lesson really need to be handed down from father to son? Who in America right now doesn't know that if you fuck around with police you're gonna get your ass whupped or worse? Yet people continue to still do it.

sounds like Europe won't be so smug about Americans now

and we should let them know they aren't allowed to travel here now

------------------------------------

Coronavirus cases are surging again in Europe after months of relative calm, but the second wave looks different from the first: Fewer people are dying, and the newest and mostly younger victims of the pandemic need less medical treatment.

Unlike the initial hit of the pandemic this spring, which overwhelmed hospitals and turned nursing homes into grim mortuaries, the European resurgence of recent weeks has not forced as many people into medical wards.

But the increase is widespread, and it is unsettling societies that had hoped the worst was behind them. Paris on Friday joined some other French jurisdictions in imposing a citywide mask requirement, with cases spiking. France, Germany, Spain and others posted caseloads in recent days that had not been seen since April and early May. Spain has been hit particularly hard, with per capita cases now worse than in the United States - a notable marker in Europe, which after the initial springtime spike had generally controlled the virus more successfully than America.

And with almost every European country planning a return to in-person schooling, many starting next week, public health officials are holding their breath for the impact.
-----------

and for those intelliigent compliant Europeans....

Police in Berlin have arrested 300 demonstrators during protests against Germany's coronavirus restrictions.

Some 38,000 people took to the streets in the city for mostly peaceful (note: but fiery) demonstrations.

About 200 people were arrested at one rally, which the authorities blamed on right-wing agitators who were said to have thrown rocks and bottles.

Similar rallies took places in other European cities with some demonstrators calling the virus a hoax.

Thousands gathered in London's Trafalgar Square to protest against issues including coronavirus restrictions and 5G. Signs reading "masks are muzzles" and "new normal = new fascism" were held up.

Similar protests took place in Paris, Vienna and Zurich.

there seems to be a reality dawning on the Democratic voters right now

just read the comments in this thread. It appears the narrative of peaceful protestors has changed in their eyes and at least for some they see how its turning Americans away from the original intent

"I do.."

That said, recall this post I made a couple years ago. I guess this is a pretty good example of my white privilege...
hedge wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2016 10:17 am Speaking of racist cops, I got a ticket in Pinetops this morning for doing 41 in a 35. Black cop, about my age. Couldn't believe he wrote that ticket. It was 7:15 in the morning, no school buses out yet and anyway I was past the school and anyway (again) the speed limit was 35 and fixin to change to 55 so I was speeding up. I said "I can't believe you're writing a ticket for this" he said "well I did" and I said "Barney Fife would be proud of you." I can't remember what he said after that, but I said "This is bullshit" and he practically charged back to my car door and angrily said "You won't get out of the car and say that or I'll taze you!" and he put his hand on his taser. I said "you're going to taze me for exercising my first amendment right to free speech? I haven't threatened you, I was just stating my opinion about this ticket and you're threatening to taze me for that??" At that point he rushed back to his car and screeched off. OK, I started this post with "speaking of racist cops", I really don't think this was a case of racism, just some small town cop flexing his muscles. I'm wan't worried about the ticket, I'm sure I'll get that reduced to nothing, but it did piss me off that he threatened to taze me just for saying "this is bullshit"...

we all should recognize that a high percentage of cops are people that have no business having the badge, gun and power that comes with being a policeman.

until we decide to pay cops a salary that allows police forces to be exclusive and select from a large number of candidates, and focus on continual training - that isn't going to change.

then people, young men in particular, have to realize they are a perceived threat the moment they are pulled over.

saying something like "this is bullshit" can be a trigger, you're openly telling the cop that what he did was wrong - and given their position, their mindset and the fact they deal with angry belligerent people multiple times a day, they have little tolerance for it.

the difference between us and say an African American male in a high crime urban center is that you and I are being pulled over for something that is fairly benign and the policeman has no expectation of the interaction going beyond that. That isn't the case for the young black male. It may start off as a non-working tail light but they have a high expectation that it will result in something more.

The Black Lives Matter protester in Kenosha who was shot in the arm by Kyle Rittenhouse says that his only regret was “not killing the kid,” a statement that will do wonders to help Rittenhouse’s self-defense argument.

Gaige Grosskreutz, who was caught on camera pointing a gun at Rittenhouse before the teenager show him in the arm, made the comments after doctors were able to save the limb from being amputated.

According to his friend Jacob Marshall, who is pictured with Grosskreutz, the BLM supporter’s “only regret was not killing the kid and hesitating to pull the gun before emptying the entire mag into him.”

In the Facebook post, Marshall also admits that Grosskreutz “drew his weapon” before he was shot by Rittenhouse.

“Well this literally shows INTENT TO KILL, so Kyle Rittenhouse’s defense lawyer just got an early Christmas present,” tweeted Mike Cernovich.

There are basically, three factions now in American politics: Nationalists, Globalists, and Socialists. Alot of the elite globalists are teaming with the socialists because they know they can't beat Trump on their own and they can live with socialists as long as the global outlook on the economy is pursued. That's why you now see traditional globalist Republicans joining Biden and Democrats. The more rank and file labor white Democrats are nationalists and are more and more supporting Trump.

And many of them aren't but their leadership certainly still leans Democrat

I don't know why anyone is either a Democrat or a Republican any more. Both parties suck and so do all the 3rd parties. Can we start a Centrist Party for those of us who just want drama-free govt that tends to business, treats everyone the same and doesn't let people hold office for more than 4 years at a time?

The South Korean debate is fascinating to me, as it relates to politics. The ruling party (Moon's party) would be the Democrats in the US. South Korea has done a tremendous job balancing COVID with the economy- successfully threading the needle without large scale shutdowns.

Well now cases are rising again and the conservative party is asking for a lockdown (level 3 in S. Korea), which has never been issued. Moon is pushing back saying the economy is too precarious right now and a several lockdown would destroy their recovery.

Sound familiar? Just goes to show that the virus is political everywhere. The opposition party will take the other side of the argument regardless of political leaning. The South Korean conservative party woudl be alligned with the Democratic party here, whereas Moon and his more liberal cohorts would align themselves with Trump.
