Re: College Football
Entertaining on one hand and pathetic on the other. Two of the worst BCS conference defenses going up against two of the better BCS offenses. I suppose the results shouldn't be THAT surprising, but even with that, 123 points between two teams is ridiculous, especially when both teams had other scoring opportunities that they didn't cash on.
What were three like six or seven plays over 60 yards in that game?

Re: College Football
What advantage is that? Or are you just saying, historically, teams that lose the first one win the rematch?Owlman wrote:There is a significant advantage to the losing team in a rematch of this sort.AlabamAlum wrote:I think that warning would work better if I were a LSU fan. If you will remember, FSU won the first game and lost the title game. This year Bama lost the first one and will beat LSU for the title: hence: LSU = FSU; Bama = Florida.
Nonetheless, Alabama lost the first game because of horrendous specials teams. Bama's offense and defense outperformed LSU's offense and defense - not by a large enough margin to overcome unfielded punts, 4 missed FGs and a remarkable INT at the goalline, however.

Re: College Football
I agree with AA. 'Bama did plenty to win that game but still just enough to lose it. Give LSU's special teams credit; it continues to prove that it can be a really big part of a game's outcome. Most schools just shrug their shoulders at it but it can be quite a difference maker, especially in close games.
That said, LSU's offense has looked much better since that 'Bama game. I'm really anxious to see what the crowd split will be in New Orleans. My guess would be about 60-40 LSU. Not that big of a difference, really. Of course, the Sugar Bowl between Florida and Florida State in January 1997 was 50/50, although by the middle of the third quarter, it seemed more like 70/30 Florida.
Another small difference between Florida '96 and 'Bama 11-- Florida lost on the road by three. 'Bama lost at home by three. Of course, both teams had a ton of special team errors and experienced a bad turnover inside the red zone.
AA may be on to something after all!!

Re: College Football
aTm fails to mention Baylor makes the big 12 3-0 and covers the spread though when I crashed Washingotn had just scored to make it 56-53
granted thjere was no defense bu baylor has tdone this to every team this year including texas/us/oklahoma etc
the surprise was the washington kid. granted somne of thos playes looked like the defenses did not have a clue that they were out there to cover anybody.
I think RG3 is a top 5 pick with Cam having the success he had somebody will trade up to get him. question is does he come out this year. with landry jones and barkley staying you have to beleieve this is the year RG needs to come out not wait til next

And don't think I forgot about my genius idea of D1-AAA collegiate football being an indoor league. The rise of club football has temporarily derailed that plan, but its still on the back burner.hedge wrote:"God I love pro-indoor football"

Re: College Football
We held Baylor down a little bit. I think Okie State also held them down scoring wise because Baylor turned the ball over like 6 times.

I don't care that they didn't play defense. Wasn't shit on TV last night anyways. That was a fun game to watch.
It was that or watch UNC beat Elon by 95 points.

I like the stinky pinky but only up to the first knuckle, I do not want a GD thumb up there--I've told her multiple times and I always catch her when she tries to pull a fast one---it's my butthole for Chrissakes I'm gonna know--so cut out the BS.

Wisky v Ducks in the Rose will be good, too, I'm expecting.

Re: College Football
My gut says Oregon wins but if UO has more than a few three and outs with that no huddle offense, it could be a disaster, because Wisconsin spends pretty much every game gaining four yards on first down, second down and then third down. It could be pretty lopsided time of possession-wise.Bklyn wrote:Wisky v Ducks in the Rose will be good, too, I'm expecting.
That said, I expect Oregon to roll off about four or five really big plays. Wisky's defense, after a very good start to the season, has proven to be susceptible to big plays.

Re: College Football
Not that hard to remember a punt, there was one involved in a big turning point. Washington returned a Baylor punt to like the 10 or 15 looking to go up by 3 scores, they fumbled. 1st play after the turnover was the 90 yard TD run to cut it to 3 points.
