I think in the Northeast its more acceptable to have a bottle tucked away in the drawer for after work

But that shit would get you fired in the south.

EDS, when it was run by Perot, didn't even allow facial hair. They were a conservative firm.

The ad firm Ogilvey here in Manhattan used to (or maybe still does, I don't know) have a thing called "Thirsty Thursdays" where at 3pm people would go down to the caf and have beer and drinks. Some people would just take a Corona back to their desk. It used to bug me out when I heard about it.

I have some weird Chinese alcohol and a bottle of Don Julio both unopened in my office, in a drawer. I never took them home because they were gifts from women at work and my wife is a fucking jealous maniac whenever women buy me gifts at work. It's just easier to not bring it home and take it to parties that my buddies throw afterwork. So the next event one of my friends has at their home that I go to solo, I just grab a bottle from my office.

Sad to say, but that is my reality. My wife actually got worse with her jealousy after marriage. I think stay at home motherhood is a self esteem eroder.

I worked for EDS under Perot. It had its bright spots - 100% health, eye and dental, child care subsidized...but it was a miserable experience. I left after they told me I was being transferred to Chicago to work on a failing account with no pay increase. I could tell you some stories about the two week "orientation" we had when we hired in to teach us the "EDS way". It was prison camp brainwashing.

Then we were bought out by them at the company I'm at now and it was like attending a wake. They gave us a cheap clock with a plaque to note the buyout, cut out our yearly bonus, dropped our health care to 80/20 , ended our co-op program with UC and made us justify every expenditure thru SAP. It was torture. Dick Brown was the CEO and he'd send us these bullshit emails that ended with his catchphrase "Action, Urgency, Excellence!" One guy said that shit in a meeting one day and its the only time I ever condoned work place violence.

Eventually they sold us because they entered into a horrible contract with the Navy and were losing their ass. We were the only profitable entity they owned. They sold us to Bain, which believe it or not was a great experience. Bain was hands off - just make money, increase your value and we don't care what you do. Bain had no idea what to do with us anyway. They just sat us on for a couple of years and doubled their investment.

I use the bar more than anyone, but never during normal business hours. If I work late, I will grab a drink or two before leaving. We keep it stocked with Glenlivet, Elijah Craig, Crown, Stoli and Bacardi.

We have a little putting machine in there, a dart board, and a 32" 1080p tv with digital cable.

There is a box on the right hand side of the bar. That's the ventilation fan we're having put in there so that we can smoke in the bar.
