So married couples should each feel out their own taxes? All individual taxes? How would that work with homeowners deductions? Seeking clarification.

hello, libertarian, you wouldn't be paying those taxes

corporate taxes, capital gains...maybe a national sales tax but the need for government money would be greatly reduced.

Its already been hashed on here with another poster (I can't remember who, maybe Sardis) but take out payroll tax and Government still has the same income it had going back to like 2004

Birth Control Debate: Why Catholic Bishops Have Lost Their Grip on U.S. Politics -- and Their Flock
http://news.yahoo.com/birth-control-deb ... 00707.html

Catholic Charities and Catholic Services support the change, Catholic Bishops against it. Makes sense, the first two are on the front lines in terms of health care services while Bishops are more about dogma. If the main talk is about religious freedom, Republicans gain. If it's about birth control, Republicans lose. Before the compromise, I think it was going to be about Religious freedom. Afterwards, I think it'll be about birth control.

Even with the president’s approval rating showing signs of life and the Republicans busily bashing themselves over the head — “one is a practicing polygamist and he’s not even the Mormon,” retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor recently quipped about her party’s two frontrunners — America continues to track right, according to polling data released by the Gallup Organization last week.

Americans at this political moment are significantly more likely to identify as conservative than as liberal: conservatives outnumber liberals by nearly two to one. Forty percent identify as conservative, 36 percent as moderate, and 21 percent liberal.

Why the hell would Sandra Day O'Connor throw something like that out? She comes across as a bitter old woman who missed her chance at a few wild nights out with the boys.

Christ.

I think much of that is due to the fact that the GOP and Fox News has been very successful in making "liberal" a dirty word.

Being conservative is identified as being self reliant, responsible and a bit of country club, where liberal is dred lock hippies and tree huggers, immigrants and welfare queens

That identity was true in 2008 as well but when presented with a choice of a carpet bagger McCain tied to the old guard and a liberal minded Obama, they chose Obama.

To me the bottom line is, so many people are vested in the government dole in some way, whether its scared there is a terrorist declaring jihad in their backyard on them, dependency on social security, medicare or other forms of income stability, or a strong belief in the government involved in their social values, everyone has some socialist tendencies that when isolated and examined would in itself be considered liberal leaning, yet they claim they are conservatives because they aren't "all in" on a fictionalized view of liberalism. While that attitude allows the GOP to get their attention, they listen only as long as they keep promising them stuff. As soon as hard core conservative issues kick in they quietly reject them. This is true on even rather straight forward issues such as significant tax reduction. Americans want to feel good about saying they are conservative but will openly dismiss anyone less than a moderate as their candidate.

I call it the "whatever helps you sleep at night" conscience of the voter.

SW Ohio needs to be the darkest green possible.

What's interesting is that Norh Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin have taken quite the conservative turns in 2010. Conservatism seems to be winning in those states currently.

I can't speak for prior to 1989, but North Carolina was a conservative state with a history of populism that allowed Democrats to succeed sometimes. Thus you get a Jesse Helms and a John Edwards.

Word to the wise. If you are going through a messy divorce, you may want to wait a few years after it's finalized before you attempt to run for office...especially if it mentions about you giving your wife herpes.

Funny that they reference Van Jones in the article. Van Jones got from Fox what Lou Dobbs got from Media Matters.
