The fuel tax part of this seems to be something more along the line of "throw all the tea in the harbor because of the Tea Act type thing" More of a last straw than a cause. This seems like a fairly serious nationalist/populist revolt over immigration and its economic impact. The more I read about it, it seems like some people are fed up with paying for the free social safety net for African and Arab immigrants than about they are about paying extra gas tax.

The more I read about it, it seems like some people are fed up with paying for the free social safety net for African and Arab immigrants than about they are about paying extra gas tax.

How could the Europeans, whose socialist/open borders economic model is so deeply beloved by the American Left, turn out to be Nazis and Klan members?

From the stories I see, the protests really are about fuel prices. France adopted some of the toughest immigration laws in all of Europe last spring - tougher than Russia even, if anybody ever wanted to immigrate there. heh (cool story - 1 in 10 Russians want to emigrate)
