The fuel tax part of this seems to be something more along the line of "throw all the tea in the harbor because of the Tea Act type thing" More of a last straw than a cause. This seems like a fairly serious nationalist/populist revolt over immigration and its economic impact. The more I read about it, it seems like some people are fed up with paying for the free social safety net for African and Arab immigrants than about they are about paying extra gas tax.

Either way, the US msm will obviously ignore it.

When it's reported on the front page/first 10 minutes of a news program (7:00), then you'll have a point.

How could the Europeans, whose socialist/open borders economic model is so deeply beloved by the American Left, turn out to be Nazis and Klan members?

There's really only a hair breadth of difference between "I dont want to pay for their free shit" and "If they are getting free shit, it means I'm getting less!"

From the stories I see, the protests really are about fuel prices. France adopted some of the toughest immigration laws in all of Europe last spring - tougher than Russia even, if anybody ever wanted to immigrate there. heh (cool story - 1 in 10 Russians want to emigrate)

BBC New 23 April 2018
The French National Assembly has passed a tough new immigration law that tightens the rules around asylum. The bill shortens asylum application deadlines, doubles the time for which illegal migrants can be detained, and introduces a one-year prison sentence for entering France illegally. President Emmanuel Macron's governing centrist party says the bill will speed up the process of claiming asylum.

But opposition figures and human rights groups say the measures go too far.

The bill passed by 228 votes to 139, with 24 abstentions, after more than 60 hours of debate over the weekend and hundreds of amendments.

So why didnt it all just go away when Macron scrapped the new fuel taxes?

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/paris-riot ... -tax-hike/

Macron on Wednesday agreed to abandon the fuel tax hike, but protesters' demands have now expanded to other issues. Protesting students are disrupting schools and universities Thursday, and drivers are still blocking roads around France, now demanding broader tax cuts and government aid.

I dunno - that's CBS. What does Breitbart say?

I dont read Breitbart.

Macron on Wednesday agreed to abandon the fuel tax hike, but protesters' demands have now expanded to other issues. Protesting students are disrupting schools and universities Thursday, and drivers are still blocking roads around France, now demanding broader tax cuts and government aid.

In other words it sounds like the actual mainstream news is coming around to the fact that "The fuel tax part of this seems to be something more along the line of "throw all the tea in the harbor because of the Tea Act type thing." More of a last straw than a cause." Seems you should just read my posts and then you'd have all the hard hitting analysis you need 3 days faster than CBS.

You mentioned immigration as their main gripe. I didn't see it in that story and gave you an invitation to back it up yourself. N'est-ce pas?

On the other hand, here is the one issue on which I would support Trump’s impeachment:

Yes, although from what I can tell most of the folks around here seem to agree that you ought to post less.

That’s what he gets for always posting how much he wants us to die.

All kidding aside, I’m okay with hedge. And just about everybody around here. Mileage may vary.
