honestly I don't know very much about Mindy McCready but I just read she is the fifth person to die that has been on celebrity rehab.

Even with a high risk group like that, that has to be an off the chart stat

That's only like one per season though.

I was amused by Roger Clemens' statement that she seemed nice the few times he met her (issued because the press knows he was tappin that back when she was 15).

If you're a celebrity and you're willing to go on Celebrity Rehab, it means you want, expect and are scheduled to die.

Read an article on that yesterday, and also saw a link where one of the Storage Wars guys had killed himself as well...

It was just Mark...not a full timer, but still...

My driver said he met one of the dudes from that show Lizard Lick Towing at a truck stop about a week ago. Said he actually got in my truck...

heh...the daily show had that video last night.

this month's Playboy has a story about the making of Smokey and the Bandit.

Hal Needham was the director and pushed the idea to have them make the movie. He really wanted Jackie Gleason who was already a big star but had made a few bomb movies so he was willing to take the role.

So he calls Needham up a day before he was supposed to show up on the set and tells Needham to swing by his place because he wants to go over some script ideas. Needham is dreading this because he has heard stories about Gleason being a pain in the ass to work with. So he goes over in the morning and Gleason meets him at the door wearing slacks, a red blazer with a carnation and they go inside. Gleason offers him a drink and they end up drinking all day and all night, getting completely shitfaced and never talk about the script.

The next day on the set, Gleason shows up wearing the same outfit, clearly wrinkled because he passed out in it.Needham can barely stand up he is so hungover and that pretty much began the cycle of them filming the movie.

On days that Gleason had scenes, they shot the serious stuff in the morning because that was the only time he was sober, by noon, he was feeling pretty good and that's when they shot the comedy because he'd ad lib. Paul Williams said he was pretty close to being full blown drunk when he came up with the "there is no way you came from my loins, when I get home I'm gonna punch your momma right in the mouth". By 5pm they'd shut down because he'd be worthless and then they'd all go to the bar and close it down with Jerry Reed playing with the house band.

The results of the movie
1. Made Burt Reynolds the most bankable hollywood leading man from 1978 - 1982
2. Created a number #1 with East Bound and Down written by Jerry Reed
3. Revived the career of Jackie Gleason. It also move Pat McCormick (Big Enos) from being a comedy writer to in front of the camera
4. Sally Field and Burt Reynolds began dating on that movie and it lasted until halfway thru Bandit II where all the arguments they had on script were turned into dialog for the movie
5. Sales of the Trans Am rocketed for Pontiac
6. Smokey and the Bandit was the second highest grossing movie behind Star Wars (and Burt Reynolds turn down the role of Han Solo thanks to some bad advice he received from friends)

I like those old school actors like Gleason and the Rat Pack - those guys that actually had a full blown bar in their house and walked around with a tumbler of ice and straight Jack Daniels like we carry around cans of soda nowadays.

The drawback is, however, when it's time to check out the process is a little more brutal and painful. The first 25 - 30 years of functioning like this is one thing...the next 30 years is a big roll of the dice.

Celebrity Rehab had taught us all this

you know a guy who does that whole tumbler with Jack Daniels things now is Seth McFarlan.

Talk about leading a charmed life. I heard an interview where after Fox dumped Family Guy they didn't think there would be any money in the DVD rights and merchandising so he got that as a parachute when they cancelled, then they pick it back up and it has a 10 year+ run. They guy is bringing in double digit millions on that - plus he is still young, single and is fucking models like bums eat day old bread.

I'd fucking walk around with a tumbler of Jack Daniels too if I were him.

He also LOVES show tunes. Not trynna Liberace him, and all, but...well...you know...

(one thing I am envious over is that he named Peter after a teacher he hated in High School...and the teacher tried to sue him for it. That's something I DEFINITELY would have done...and if I ever get any sort of creative exploit that gets a global audience I will do something in that vein)

Bill Maher was saying that after Seth was on his show, the floor was littered with those airline novelty Jack Daniels bottles.

That may cross the line from being cool to ..damn, this guy is a drunk.
