"Not you. Not rat. Not eCat. Not DS.
Now, I live on the West Coast (Arizona) but that is not California. Hopeful there might be others."

Greenville. Not living it up, but more ratcheting it down. A lot less hectic than Charlotte.

Growing up in Massachusetts and making maybe 20 drives down and up the I-95 to Daytona and Orlando for vacations, (because we were too cheap for plane tickets and rental cars BUT we/I loved Disney/Universal, loved the Atlantic side for the beach, and the I-95 made a Florida vacation incredibly affordable for the Massachusetts resident who could drive 22 hours) this is what South Carolina was to me:

I think the first billboard you see driving down from Boston is in Maryland somewhere, like 400 miles away from South Carolina (or maybe it was Delaware?) Then there is like 200+ billboards that you are forced to look at in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Interesting marketing gimmick. Get the New York/New England I-95 driver so sick and tired of looking at Pedro's billboards that they simply MUST stop and look around. But its still the most expensive place for both fireworks and gasoline in South Carolina, at least it was. Tourist trap.
We stopped a couple of times. I talked to one of the clerks about the history. I find it interesting that the history of the place, it was originally designed to target Jewish families from New York who drove down to Florida at Christmastime in the 1950s and 1960s while the gentiles were busy opening presents. Apparently, the minute you cross into South Carolina on I-95, you are almost exactly halfway in between Manhattan and Miami.

The one positive attribute of SOTB is Blenheim Ginger Ale which preceded the tourist trap but was eventually bought by it.
