From IC:

That nervous energy fueled by a bad defensive performance dissipated rather quickly following the under-8 media timeout. And it was because one player decided it was his time: R.J. Davis.

Brown continued to fight as Nana Owusu-Anane retook the lead with a 3-pointer off the backboard, 77-75, with 6:55 to play. But Davis put it into overdrive and went nuclear in response. He nailed the first UNC trey in the second half to retake the lead, 78-77; a lead his team would never relinquish.

He scored 14 points in the final seven minutes and was the only Tar Heel to make a field goal the rest of the way to finish with a career-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-9 from three-point range. His previous high was 19 against Virginia Tech last season.

I will say, though, that you should start when college hoops started to become integrated. Before that it was just a bunch of white fucks (like Rumps Ruts) running up and down the court playing patty-cake. 1967 should be when you start figuring who the greatest programs of the modern era are...
Carolina's 1957 title team beat an integrated KU team with Wilt Chamberlain to win the title, which means our early success is far more legitimate than UK's wins over a bunch of 6'3" pasty-ass white guys.

Zone defenses will not fix Carolina's defensive issues. Carolina's defensive issues stem from 60+ years (starting with Coach Smith when he took over in 1961) of defensive philosophy based upon helping off of outside players on the opposite end of the floor. The philosophy's weakness is easily exposed in the modern game with today's players / teams that are far more skilled at outside shooting. Davis' offensive philosophy will be more modern, but I have serious doubts that the program's defensive philosophy will change that much. It's too early too tell though.

Ironically, Coach Smith was far less dogmatic than Coach Williams. Coach Smith would change defenses throughout a game (and not just the two main variations of man-to-man we always run: 21 and 22*) alternating between 2-3 / 2-1-2, half court traps, run and jump traps out of man defenses, 21 and 22 man defenses, switching off of screens and then fighting through screens, and the occasional gimmick like a 1-3-1 or box-and-one. Whereas Roy believed that man defense was best, that players needed to fight through screens, etc. However, Roy had rare times when he would swallow his ego, relent and have the guys switch off of screens or play some zone (he seemed to favor a 1-3-1 match-up zone), such as against Dook in 2018 and 2019. He coached his ass off and coached circles around K.

And no one will care if BC goes 4-0. I don't think they will (I think they lose in Rhode Island) but no one will care.

That said, given BC's fifth opponent, if they go 5-0 then people will start to care.

Charleston has a shit ton of talent. Something like 6 transfers and 3 frosh getting minutes for them. Awesome win for UNC.

You must not've watched the game last night. Yeah, we lost, but hung in pretty well (and led in the 2nd half) against the #6 team in the country, that actually proved their ranking by beating #5 Nova today. They're legit. Now today, I can't disagree with you...
