As much as I'd like to see us in the BCSCG, I don't think it will happen.
*LSU won
*No one besides Alabama wants to see us play them again
*Same goes for Oregon
*If we'd made just one of those kicks, we'd win in regulation
*If we'd punted and played field postion instead of trying those kicks, well...LSU hadn't been able to move the ball with regularity all game long. We'd PROBABLY had an opportunity at those kicks from a more makeable distance.

To let Bama in is hypocritical even though I believe they are the best team in the country. I guess having a better kicker would and that HB Option play would have made it moot, but the Tide lost, so now what?
If Bama does, in fact, get a rematch, then could Georgia play in the Sugar or would the SEC not get a third team?
How can you compare Georgia in 2007 to Bama in 2011? Bama has one loss: to #1 LSU in OT by 3. In 2007, Georgia had two losses: To a 6-6 SoCar team at home by 4 and on the road to Tennessee by 21.
Anyway, the two teams with the top BCS scores go.
He's a Georgia fan. It's in their DNA.

It's actually quite simple: you should not play for the title if you do not win your conference. Bottom line. Georgia was not a champion in 2007. Bama will not be either if LSU makes it to the title game. Therefore, Bama does not deserve to play for title, regardless of how good I believe they are.

If you had said that originally, I wouldn't gave said a word. If that's your opinion, it's your opinion.
But making the leap by comparing Georgia 2007 to Bama in 2011? Bah.
Therefore, Bama does not deserve to play for title
The teams that "deserve" to be there are the teams that finish #1 and #2 in the BCS.
That said, I want the two best teams there. I view it as a playoff. In the end, the teams with the highest BCS scores will go. If that's not Bama, we won't gave a legit gripe because we didn't win every game. If it is Bama over some other team, they won't have a legit gripe, either.

I never had a gripe about Florida passing Michigan-- I said so that day. Michigan had its shot at Ohio State. Florida played an important game after Michigan's season was done, won it, and won their league. I think Florida passing Michigan was perfectly defensible.
One interesting scenario with respect to that precedent this year would be Georgia winning the SEC title game over an unbeaten LSU. Would the voters punish LSU and Alabama, since neither would be a conference champion? Or, if Oklahoma and Oregon both go down tonight(which looks within the realm of possibility at this point), Alabama beats Auburn, and Georgia beats LSU, it becomes at least plausible that the scenario the AJC article discussed and dismissed works out-- LSU and Alabama finishing #1 and #2 in the BCS, and Georgia going to the Sugar Bowl as SEC champ.

Why is DDAL throwing in the towel so early?

I'd certainly take it. The rules are the rules, but a team shouldn't be the champs if they didn't win their conference. That being said... Who else deserves it? Hell, VT vs. Okie State if they win out? Stanford? Houston! The only deserving teams this year are Bama, Arky and LSU.
Damn. CFB needs a playoff.

AJC reported Larry Munson died today at 89. Tony Barnhart primarily wrote his obituary.
All I want to say is so long and Godspeed, Larry. Thanks for all the calls.

UM got jumped by UF because OSU beat UM the LAST game of the year for both teams.
How could you possibly give UM another shot at OSU in the very next game?
If it was in the middle to last third of the year, they very well could have been given a re-match.
LSU-BAMA still had 1/4th of the season to go and the others all fell by the wayside.
And I have no issue at all with a team who didn't win their conference playing in the BCS MNC game.
BTW if if BSU hasn't blown it against TCU they would be sitting pretty to play LSU.

Not only that, but the Big Ten did not have a CCG. Playing in that gave Florida a bump.

I was always a big fan of Larry Munson. I'll always remember his calls of:
1. Herschel driving Bill Bates into the endzone against Tennessee in his first game ("My God! He's only a freshman!")
2. Belue-to-Scott against Florida.
3. My personal favorite: Georgia's goal line stand against Auburn sometime in the '80's. Larry lost all pretense of objectivity and was screaming and crying "Come on Dawgs! Hunker Down! I'll never ask anything from you again!" You've just got to love a passionate homer like that.
I am saddened by his passing.

I posted something about Lewis Grizzard and Munson having a drink today as my Facebook status. Then a buddy of mine sent me a link to some tweet where a guy said something similar. Great minds think alike...

Munson got to do something he loved doing almost up to the very end of this time here. Good for him.

Florida actually played TWO games after OSU-Michigan in 2006. Florida State didn't give them much of a bounce but beating Arkansas in the title game sure did.

Congrats to the dawgs, bout what I expected...sorry we really didn't even make you sweat. Hopefully, that's the last time Washington will touch the ball.
