Our economy would crumble if we didn't have that cheap labor. Those people do way more to help our economy than hedge fund billionaires...

Yeah, all those folks you mentioned, successful, accomplished, widely respected, wealthy, yep, they all need the likes of you to "explain" anything to them. Got it...

Another "do as I say" komrade, Bill Gates buys ocean front property that will be underwater in a few years.....
Bill Gates, who has made headlines recently for his coronavirus predictions and philanthropy, has a new oceanfront property near San Diego.

I think he needs you to explain things to him. He's lost without your guidance...
speaking of bored rednecks, in reference to me or the program, I watched a KET documentary last night on the Hatfield and McCoys
There was some back and forth but I thought this shit went on for generations. It only lasted about 8 years and only 6 people died, 5 of 'em McCoys
In the end, both sides got screwed over by coal companies and lost everything they owned.
A New York reporter showed up one day after Hatfield was up on the mountains living in a fort, broke and hiding from creditors/lawmen and wrote a wild west story about them that made them all out to be uneducated borderline savages.
The Hatfields actually got respectable after that , most of them worked their way into the improbable middle class of Appalachia. The McCoy's ended up working in the mines. But the damage to the area from their reputation was locked in for generations.

And just when that reputation was being forgotten, along comes Jesco White...

why would wages ever go up if we have porous borders that allow cheap labor to flood in continuously?
The American consumer is at fault too, they won't be willing to pay $4 a pound for tomatoes or $100 for lawn care, but it has to begin with controlling the amount of labor in the job market to drive wages to a living standard.
That's what I've been saying, eCat.
And concerning your second paragraph on the supply and demand of labor, it's been hundreds of years since the GOP realized Adam Smith's invisible hand could be used for naughty purposes instead of what he intended.

When I was in SF I called some soul food place and asked if they had hushpuppies, the guy didn't even really know what I was talking about, I explained it to him and he said I should try "Treacherous," I was like "what?" and he said "Treacherous Chicken." After he repeated it a few more times, I realized he was saying Church's Chicken...

"Someone want to explain why anyone would put this person in charge in the middle of a global crisis?"
That's easily explained: Trump. Look, I'll admit Biden has lost a step (or three), but all that really does is show you what a steaming pile of dog shit Trump is, that a majority of Americans would rather have Biden as president than Trump...
