We finally got a freshman big man that I think is going to exceed the hype rather than the opposite. Not that Day'ron Sharpe got a ton of hype, but he was a 5 star recruit, so that always comes with some level of expectation. Reminded me a little of J.R. Reid. He's going to be our best big man since Hansbrough. You can just tell when a kid gets it and has the physicality and the ability to impose his will, and Sharpe appears to be one of those kids. Seems like UK gets a couple of those types every year (well, maybe not in the past few years, but for awhile there), glad we finally got one.

Admittedly Coby White did the same thing as a guard 2 years ago and, like Sharpe, he was a small town eastern NC prodcuct. I love it when those guys come in and make good. Looking forward to watching this kids rips some rims off some backboards. He's also going to be a rebounding machine and there's no better way to get minutes under Roy than to rebound your ass off. I suspect this kid will be starting over Bacot at some point, but in fairness Bacot seems to have gotten the message that there's somebody ready to take his spot if he slips, and he played like it last night. Those two with Garrison Brooks should be the best frontcourt in the country.

Kessler is going to be fine, he is massively long, probably going to take some time for him to fill into that body, but he's not Walker Miller, who is still just a gangly 7 footer after 4 years. Not saying Kessler is going to be the next Bill Walton, but I think he's going to track way closer (and probably exceed) Tyler Zeller, which would be fantastic.

Guards look good, scrappy and plenty skilled, we can win with these guys. But the main guy to keep an eye on is Sharpe...

last night during our game they announcers were talking about how good UNC's front court is and how UK's will compare to it by mid season.

And I was shaking my head at how , at least our front court is guys that didn't wear a UK uniform last year.

I watched some of the game last night and I was like "we have a player named Ware? Mintz? Fletcher?" I didn't know even half the names.

yea well

I was reminded why I wanted to with the introduction of the game from ESPN talking about the pandemic and then how athletes found a voice in fighting racism and showed a "defund the police" sign, then when they do the obligatory promo for the schools in the game, UK talks about how they are fighting systemic racism

So I ended up watching the significant plays using a feature on Youtube TV.

Then Cal afterwards dogs the fans who wanted a harder schedule this year saying UK is going to lose games now.

Good start for UK. I think we may have some good outside shooting.

They're fighting for racial justice and an end to police violence and you use the phrase "outside shooting"?? SMH....

Hedge -- I agree with your assessment of this year's team. It's always great to have homegrown future pro talent on the squad like Day'Ron. Our freshmen guards also look the part, but our downfall will once again be our wings and lack of outside shooting. Platek and Black are an abomination of Carolina Basketball. When Anthony Harris is cleared from his ACL rehab, I hope he, along with freshmen Walton and Johnson, can take all of their playing time.

Too bad Walton died. The new guy just doesn’t have it.

AntiK, with the frontcourt we've got, we shouldn't need to rely on outside shooting this year, but I agree that once again that may be a weak spot. Hard to say at this point b/c you never know how the freshmen are going to turn out, but I was happy to see Puff Johnson's first shot as a Carolina player be a made 3 pointer...

You know...it's one game and the year is early, but if this crowd stays healthy and Davis/Walton/Harris/Johnson produce enough outside shooting to keep folks honest and some semblance of a wing that can get to the basket, I like this team's chances. They have three talented big men (Roy's championship / final four squads always have three or more good bigs), a point guard who can pass and score, and some shooting, and now they need the wing who can drive (I think they will be fine shooting from outside).

If the season isn't cancelled, watch out because this team might just have the ability to put it all together come February and March like that 2011 squad (a team that would have won the national championship if not for shit outside shooting against UK in the Elite 8).

Recycling posts isn't cool. You've posted the same thing after game 1 for 20 years now

when I first moved to Cinci, we'd get multiple snows in winter of 6". My first year here we got 18" in one dumping. So when I bought my house with a long driveway I bought a snow blower - one of those Minnesota types with the big tires and 10hp motor, electric start - the whole package.

I bet I've used it 4 times in 12 years and 3 of them were just because I had it. I don't bother dragging it out if its less than 3"

Wednesday the news was talking about a chance of a real winter weather event today or tomorrow so I dragged it out. The carb was clogged because I used it so little so I spent yesterday cleaning the carb, changing the oil, greasing the auger, all that nonsense. Have it running like a top. The "winter weather event" we are getting is wet snow that is melting as soon as it hits the ground with a temp being 38 degrees.

Part of the reason I moved to this area was to get a taste of real winter, but I guess with global warming or whatever, those days are gone.
