I've heard that Bama's women's gymnastics are so good, The Saban must be the coach.

Another shower-related UT casualty:
Izruea Lanier, once an AU commit and 2012 starting CB for Vols, ruled ineligible.

Oh boy. Here we go.

BCS officials reach consensus on playoff

Apparently, this will be implemented in 2014 if this passes. It's a four team playoff.

Details of this are not exactly forthcomming. But, it appears teams will play in bowls as usual. A selection committee will pick from the bowl winners... that's right, pick... the four teams.

What a fucking joke.

As long as they pick the top-4 ranked teams at the end of the bowl season, it should be an improvement over the current system. Even the current system has done a pretty good job of matching the two most-deserving teams. Allowing 2 more teams to have a say should all but eliminate the 1 or 2 teams who might have a legitimate beef about being left out.

I'm sort of a traditionalist and I like the bowls, so this sounds like a pretty decent compromise to me.

My understanding (from Mike and Mike this morning) was that two bowls were going to serve as the de facto Final Four. Winners of those two games play each other for the championship. Still an improvement over the current setup...

Selection committee is the obvious way to pick the 4 teams. Its having polls (and multiple polls at that) decide it that has always been idiotic.

I can't imagine how this could turn out any way but successfully, hopefully they will expand it into the top 4 bowls being the Elite 8 and then the winners playing in a "Final Four" and then a championship game...

If that's the way it is, I can live with that and would be happy. The problem is they are saying there is a selection committee and this committee would pick the four teams out of all of the bowl winners (I bet it's actually the top 8 bowl games...). That worries me as that conjures up images of to much home cooking and such.

What we have today is far better than what we used to have. Going to a selection committee for a 4-team playoff system would be taking a step back, IMO.

And I'll also point out the thought of this being a playoff "system" still bothers me. This is not a play off system. This is just another way for some group to have a little power: they get to pick and what they say goes.

This is a playoff system the same way the current system is a playoff system. It's just going from 2 teams to 4 teams, and from using a preset mathematical formula to whatever selection criteria this one has. I would rather they stick with the the math than leave it to a selection committee, but the camel's nose is clearly under the tent. We will soon hear clamoring for 8 teams because number 5 got screwed and after that 16 because it will make more money. Pfft! What's the time gap going to be from the semifinals to the championship? Lets see how many people are going to cough up travel and game expenses back to back and on short notice.
