In fairness, Roy did say he felt that not telling his guys to foul when we were up 3 in the final seconds was the biggest mistake he's made in 32 years as a head coach. Not sure if he said "biggest mistake" or the thing he felt worst about that was his fault, but something to that effect. Doesn't make the loss any easier to take and in fact might make it worse, but at least he took the blame...

Apples to oranges. Coach Smith spent 15 seasons in the restricted NCAA tournament era. Two of those seasons were hampered by NCAA and university restrictions, and all of them fell during an era when the best paid professional team was UCLA. Add to that the injuries in '77 and '84 (the same type of stuff that cost UNC at least one title under Roy) and unbelievable bad luck, and you have why Coach Smith only had two titles. I would take Coach Smith over Roy any day. Roy is a great coach, but his stubborn mindset is his achilles. Coach Smith did a better job of adapting strategy to his personnel.

This game was lost because of four reasons:
1) Recruiting: We missed out on wing scorers in the last few recruiting cycles, and it shows.
2) Competence: This team wilts under pressure due to LOFT and inexperience.
3) Roy: Roy admitted he forgot to tell the team to foul at the end, but was that the total ball game? No. The team played like idiots down the stretch.
4) Injuries: If Harris or Anthony were healthy, they could have beaten the press more effectively.

Agreed Roy is good recruiter and great at running his system but in game he is bad.

There are plenty of times I would agree with this, but Roy has outcoached K quite a bit over the past 2-3 years. Running that 1-3-1 last year was unexpected and genius.

I think Roy stays within his comfort level too much, but he has earned that right.

That kid I've been keeping up with and telling you guys about, a friends son, is on pace to pass Lebron James in Ohio High School scoring. It would mean he'd would have to step it up his Senior year to averaging 5 or so points more a game, but its within the realm of possibility.

So he's not on pace then?

Or do you mean on pace just in comparison with the number of points James had at the same time?

not sure about where they compare now. The assumption is the kid will improve his numbers his Senior year. If he does, he should pass James, (who isn't number 1, he is number 5 in Ohio). The local news station did the story on him and put the numbers together.

LOL

I have no idea what is going to happen but I wouldn't be surprised if DeSousa has played his last game for Kansas

suspended indefinitely pending UNC type internal investigation that will show he wasn't actually fighting but donating time to a charity that teaches homeless people life skills.
