You must grimly note Bama's lack of talent, experience, depth, coaching, a brutal schedule, and all the other reasons why the Tide will be lucky to eke out a winning season.
AA has been scarce of late, so this important ceremonial function may devolve to you. Do us all proud, sir. It wouldn't be a proper season opener without it.

kidding aside, it will be a 10-point game if both teams play their best.
Prof, we'd have to borrow at least 3 NFL draft choice offensive linemen to have an opportunity at a successful season. Alabama does not have a lack of talent, it's just not proven in big games. Or any game for that matter. So the depth while there, it's truly inexperience which will do us in.
AA, if nothing else, is an eternal optimist. He believes we can come within 10 points of the VT juggernaut...
G,BIIT...
Well done, sir. Well done. Almost up to AA's lofty standards of sandbaggery. You also did a masterful job of hiding the intermittent gales of laughter while you were typing it.
Now that the annual G,BIIT preseason post has been made, the CFB season may now begin.
You still shoulda used the words "smoke and mirrors." That's a classic.

A fair article on Saban in GQ by Warren St. John (warning, long):

AJ McCarron got off the team bus wearing a boot. We are fucked.

Saban will heal McCarron by kickoff.

* The Bama o-line, as feared, has a lot of growing up to do. They were dominated. 206 yards of total offense. Half of those 206 yards came off of 4 medium-to-long range plays -runs of 20 and 27 yards and two passes of 38 and 18.
* Alabama improved to 12-1 all-time vs. the Hokies. This is my fifth to attend, and the second worse of those games I've been at.
* The pregame fan bash was disappointing. $10 to get in and booths with Kia, Coke, Chick-fil-a, Samsung and whatnot. Essentially, in-person commercials by the game's sponsors - which is fine, but charging $10 to get in is lowrent. Also, if you wanted a snack while you were there, Chick-fil-a has a "special": $12 for a sandwich, chips, and a soda. $12!
* I don't want to be the spoiled fan, no team in the nation has won more games than Bama since 2008 (62) and we've won 3 of the last four national championships. So, things are good, but I am afraid this season will look a lot like 2010.

I don't know if 10 wins constitutes "trouble" or not.

It's going to take a few more games to determine if AA is sandbagging here. The stats he cited are indeed potentially troubling, but as noted, "troubling" for Bama mean 9 wins...
" Also, if you wanted a snack while you were there, Chick-fil-a has a "special": $12 for a sandwich, chips, and a soda. $12!"
I assume you didn't leave a tip...

Oh, I didn't buy the sandwich "deal". Even if I had, it was counter service.

A hotdog and a beer is about $15 at the ballpark. At least NASCAR lets you bring your own beer.

For Alabama, these days, it does. Only 10 wins is your doomsday scenario.
How's AJM's foot? Did Saban cast the injury out?

Apparently, it was a toenail.

Ingrown toenails hurt like a mother. I'm not sure why it warranted a boot, though.
Regardless, I assume Saban returned took one look at the offending toenail and it cowered back to its rightful configuration.

They had supposedly removed the nail and the boot was precautionary. I don't know.
