The Astros have been punished fairly severely and deserved what punishment they got. They aren't the only team that's been doing this though, especially since MLB implemented the instant replay with manager challenges (at which point every team suddenly had employees who had a job to watch the live video and send information on it to the dugout). Every single team in baseball realized at that point that telling the manger whether to challenge isnt the only useful info you can send, assuming they didn't already know it.

The Red Sox and Yankees (which is hilarious since they are the most asshurt bunch of fans out there) are certainly also cheats, and in fact were the first to get slapped on the wrist over all of this. It's basically open "secret" since the very first article that Carlos Beltran instigated the Astros system because a similar one had helped him with the Yankees.

Its also hilarious to see the righteous indignation, as if baseball wasn't the game of cheating assholes in general. Every single baseball team has players that will cheat in a heartbeat if they can, whether its as small as obliterating the back line of the batters box, pitching from in front of the rubber to doctoring the baseball or smearing their hands with pine tar (Mike Fiers?) or outright roiding up. Guarantee you many sign stealing cheats have world series rings. The 1951 shot heard round the world Giants? Stole signs. Will Clark confirmed he was on teams that stole signs. Mike Scott was quoted in a book saying the early 80's Mets used video cameras to steal signs. Jack McDowell recently said that Tony LaRussa set up a camera to steal signs with the White Sox in the 80s.

Every douchebag will always have license to say 2017 Houston Asterisks or say the Astros cheated now until the end of time, thats the biggest part of the punishment and didnt even have to be given out by anybody. The stuff on social media and with the Athletic generating clicks on this every day, and the media generally asking every single person what they think? Its all just a circle jerk to keep it going to generate clicks and outrage. If you let assholes on twitter determine the "proper punishment" (and Im not just talking about this, I mean all of the cancel culture BS we see) then "proper punishment" wont be meted out until somebody is publicly executed on the field, because a mob (esp on the internet) is full of fucking nutjobs.

Here's my latest find on this....I love how you can feel the moment where Girardi thinks to himself "Oh fuck, what am I saying!?" and stops himself from saying "to the hitter" and then tacks on "and then we caught it" like he was talking about some other team the whole time.

I'd pay to see that...

Seriously, though, somebody please tell me why signal "stealing" is considered cheating?

So what is that guy in the video saying? That if it's relayed to the second baseman it's OK but if it's relayed to the hitter that's cheating?

That guy is Joe Girardi (played from 89-03 for various teams including the Cubs and Yankees) and manager of the Yankees from 2008-2017 and current Phillies manager. He is saying that "He was part of a system" that relayed signs from an upstairs video room, to the dugout, to the hitter.....whoops, I mean to the guy on second base. (To be fair they are originally talking about relaying signs from a runner on second to the hitter). And then after all that he throws in "uh, and we eventually caught it!" as if he werent talking about a system he was part of. As far as what "we caught it" really means (caught who? what were the consequences?), that is also a mystery.

Using video and then relaying to the dugout, for the purpose of signaling either the batter or a runner on second base is illegal and it is also the exact same thing the Astros were punished for, and this "system" is perhaps even more egregious since it sounds like a front office system run by the organization and not one that is just driven by the players and coaches, as we are told the Astros system was.

Bla bla bla. The Yankees used walkie talkies in the 76 Series. But damn atm, you ooze homerism. And if you think they were punished enough you are a fool and a total homer. Players should gave been suspended no doubt. Don't be a fool.

IMO, players would have been suspended if it was possible from a labor relations standpoint, and I would have no problem with it, really (except absurd things, like suspended for a whole season or banned from baseball like I'm sure would be the really helpful suggestions from the twitter peanut gallery). The three most responsible people (Hinch, Cora, Beltran) all got fired from good jobs they wanted IMO, and one was the player most responsible.

How dare you say such counterrevolutionary things, comrade? Our ally in the class struggle - Tree - gets it. He understands the coming Sanders tidal wave. He is already fantasizing about Bernie and Melania in a hotel room paid for by the DNC. Tree is on the right side of history. You had better get on board if you know what’s good for you.

After two centuries of wallowing in the miseries of capitalism and democracy, the American proletariat is at last rising up against the bourgeoisie. Sanders will ride this wave into the White House in 2020.

VOTE FOR BERNIE! ALL YOU HAVE TO LOSE IS YOUR CHAINS!!

You have to wonder if Bloomberg pays his people so much that none of them have the guts to tell him he sucks at debates and should avoid them altogether.

Bernie won the debate. Hands down. Not that evil capitalist Bloomberg. He will go straight to the gulag when Bernie wins the presidency.

So the dems are offering socialism/communism...single payer....open borders....setting illegal alien felons free....free college....unlimited "jobs" in the gubment...and shuddering oil and gas, ie - shuddering the economy. Trump wins 42-43 states, minimum.

Bloomberg did have a good point when they were talking about a Sander presidency mandating that 20% of corporations are turned over to employees.

Jeff Bezos would personally give $20b to Trump to prevent that from happening

I didn't get to watch the start where Warren was going after Bloomberg, but I did get to see him ask Bernie how capitalism is bad when he is a millionaire and owns 3 homes.

"and like a lot of people in Vermont, I own a summer camp"

uh...whut?

first debate I watched - it was painful

whats amazing to me is that Bloomberg was up on that stage last night, in a debate held in Nevada - and he isn't even on the Nevada ballot

a guy who has yet to receive a single vote just walks on to the debate while Gabbard and Yang are on the outside looking in

and Bloomberg has the nerve to ask Buttigieg, Klobuchar and Biden to drop out so he can win

my Ron Paul loyalties are showing now
