You haven't??? You're kidding, right?? It certainly is one of the most common reasons used by students in higher education. It is quite recognized that a loss of a close person makes it difficult to concentrate, especially initially. I know I would not be able to do much at all upon being notified. When my uncle was murdered while I was in college, I flunked my test the next day. They let me take a make-up because of it.

Who said anything about tests?

They won one for the Gipper didn't they?

There can be no doubt that the women's basketball coach was like a close relative to the entire football team.

I dont really see why any non-partisan would want to matchup up the SEC champion with a team it already beat over matching them up with the champion of the other really good conference in football.

Well, the voters should change their votes and the computers should be reprogrammed to produce the matchup that you think Joe Fan may consider a more interesting game.

Maybe we just do away with the BCS and send every fan a ballot.

Doing away with the BCS sounds like a great idea to me. As far as all that other gobbledegook, IMO Alabama will be going to the MNC game based on beauty contest or figure skating like results. Oklahoma State wont go because the excuse will be that they lost to a "terrible" Iowa State (on the road) but its really because they are Oklahoma State. Oklahoma, on the other hand, would have gone with just one loss to Texas Tech (at home) who Iowa State beat like a fucking drum in Lubbock, simply because they are Oklahoma.

The team that will go will be the team second in the Harris-Coaches-Computer polls. If that's Bama, it's Bama. If its Okie Lite, so be it. These are the rules agreed upon.

I get it, but the rules are terrible.

You only need to go back to the genesis of the whole thing to figure out why. Initially there were only 2 polls. Then one day the polls couldnt agree on #2, so they threw in computers and SOS and formulas to decided which #2 should go. Then one year they realized that by throwing all that other shit in there at all, the formulas could actually make the #3 team go as #2 even if #1 and #2 were agreed upon by the voters in the polls. Its all been a steady reactionary "fix something" every year since then and its all bullshit. The BCS formulas have no basis in tradition, the AP poll isnt even involved. Scrap the whole fucking thing.

If LSU beats UGA and wins the SEC crown, but loses to Bama in the NC game, should Bama claim a split SEC title?

It may be terrible, aTm , but I believe if it's Bama and LSU, they got it right. They are, IMO, the two best teams.

I don't think there is any doubt that if Oklahoma and Okla st were reversed with the exact same thing happening to Oklah that happened to Oklah St, that Alabama wouldn't be at all in the conversation as going to the championship against LSU.

Of course. Bias pervades the voter system completely. Hell, I dont doubt that if you took an impromptu national poll of college football voters with only Texas Tech and Iowa State on the ballot that Texas Tech would come out ahead of Iowa State somehow. Part of Oklahoma States problem is not only their own lack of pedigree, but also the fact that people are ignorant about the quality of Iowa State.

A coach should not be taken at his word, particularly with games left to play.
