NC State fans have been using Jim Valvano's death as an excuse for sucking at basketball for 20 years. just sayin'.

I've never heard "I sucked because my dad died", but I have heard something like "I played my ass off because I knew my dad was watching".

"Regular season wins do not mitigate post season losses in any sport."
Sports with playoffs. The CFB format literally invites the type of mitigating argument I spoke of, however. But I didn't expect you to admit anything that might tarnish Bama's possible "championship" this year (or any year), and I wouldn't, either, if I was in your position. Unlike you, though, I'm in a position to look at this situation objectively. At any rate, carry on. That's what I'd do...

You haven't??? You're kidding, right?? It certainly is one of the most common reasons used by students in higher education. It is quite recognized that a loss of a close person makes it difficult to concentrate, especially initially. I know I would not be able to do much at all upon being notified. When my uncle was murdered while I was in college, I flunked my test the next day. They let me take a make-up because of it.

State firing Valvano is what killed him...
Auggie = murderer. You might as well have injected him with the cancer yourself. Murder most foul, as in the best it is;
but this most foul, strange and unnatural...

Wasn't Okie State up by like 17 or 20 in the Iowa State loss? So when exactly were they distracted? Before the game? They must've been doing ok to be up by 17 or 20 points. So did the distractions come when they were comfortably ahead? Wow that's pretty wild then. I don't mean to be insensitive but that's a bunch of BS.
I want to see the two best teams on the field. It's clearly Alabama vs. LSU. Back in '95 or '96, I can't remember the exact year, FSU beat the gaytors at Doak Campbell. Then the rematch took place at the Sugar Bowl and the gaytors won by like 30. It's happened before. I've read that the BCS is designed to place the two best teams on the field for the championship game. Well clearly that's what's about to take place. I want a playoff like most people but that's not reality. Quit your whining and crying because this is what we have now.

I think that was the year FSU racked up over 70 yards in penalties over roughing the passer charges. Florida had complained mightily going into that game that the Seminoles teed off on opponents with late hits. I didn't agree, but it worked to set the officiating tone for the game.

I totally see that.

I disagree. I don't think the purpose of the NC game should be to necessarily have the two best teams (do we really know for sure who the best two are?). The purpose is to try and determine a legitimate "best" team to get the NC trophy. We know Alabama is not that team. They lost to LSU AT HOME. If Alabama lost at LSU then you have an argument that you don't know who is better unless you play on neutral field, but you lost AT HOME and to get another shot at a neutral site is undeserved. Oklahoma State, if they win the Big 12, deserves a shot at LSU just like Alabama did because we don't know for sure if they are better or not. Alabama we already do know.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, Sardis.
Okie Stare lost to a bad Cyclone team. Bama lost to #1 LSU. The game was tied at the end if regulation. In the game, we out gained LSU, missed 4 FGs and had a pass intercepted at the goal line. I think many of the voters see that as relevant. If enough don't, and choose Okie State, we as Bama fans should not cry. Unless you win all your games in a conference like the SEC (or the BigXII) you've got to live with the results of the Harris, Coaches, and Computer polls.

I remember that game. Bowden was livid that State had to play Florida again. I still don't know which was the better team that year without a third game. By the way, were they playing for the national championship that year?

bottom line is alabama and lsu were never threatened all year winning all games by more then a td except the game they played each other.
Okie state went down to the wire with both kstate/A&M and lost to isu
like it or not bammer and lsu deserve to be in the title game when lsu beats georgia no matter what okie st dies against OU

So is it possible that 2 teams from the same conference could play for the national title even though they didn't win their conference? Wouldn't that seem...kinda....bullshitty????

Of course it does...BUT IT'S THE SEC!!!! Blah blah
If the SEC hadn't won the last 5, I think there would definitely be a bit more backlash over this matchup.
