Again I axe: What was the story about AA going to Starbuck's and announcing himself as Ishmael?

Not much to it. I didn't call their large a venti and gave them grief about them correcting me on "proper" terminology. Then they asked for my name to write on my cup and I was the only one in there. Again, I gave them grief and pulled the 'call me Ishmael' line out (which they didn't get).

I started coming up with various Starbuck names when I went. I am now 'Antonio Banderas'.

Texas was up by 18 on NC State with 11 minutes left and lost the game. Luckily no one here saw it because nobody gets the Longhorn Network.

The only name I ever use at Starbuck's, or in a restaurant, is Dees. Phil Dees.

After you told the barrista to call you Ishmael, did she say "Stop being a Dick"? That would've been funny...

This is Starbucks your talking about here, though. That type of banter you'll only get on edgy sitcoms that critics love but never really catch on with the public.

AA offered edgy banter...

I offered sass.

The temerity of some coffee pourer to correct a paying customer.

"Give me a large latte."

"Do you mean the venti?"

"is the venti your largest size?"

"Yes"

"Then I mean what I said originally. Apparently I communicated in a fashion sufficient to perfectly convey my order to you, but in some fit of misguided brand pedantry, you've seen fit to correct and put your customer on the defensive."

[blank stare then]....what is your name?

"Why do you need my name?"

"To get the right order to the right customer." [at this point I wish I had told her my word for me is not customer and came up with something as pretentious as 'venti' buti did not]

"But I'm the only customer in here."

[blank stare]

"Okay, call me Ishmael."

[scribbles 'ishmale' on cup]

I watched part of the game on espn3. I'm not totally on the Gottfried bandwagon yet but we lose that game by 30 with any of our last three coaches.

I try to work the use of "pedant" or any of its derivations into my conversations as much as possible. Well done, sir.

If you work at a place called 'Starbuck's', you need to recognize the most famous Melvillian of all time.

I thought Starbuck's had to do with Bradshaw's ex, the skater.

The Weari really lit it up for UCLA last night. Despite goldie's passionate defense of them as UNC's two greatest front court players ever, I'm glad they're gone...
