nobody thinks an "uprising" is imminent in the US. the point is the founding fathers included freedom of the press in the bill of rights specifically to help guard against government tyranny. today's press is abdicating that right and responsibility. this is just another bank on what's becoming a very slippery slope of our eroding freedoms. and why are they doing this? THE MONEY yep, it's all about the fucking money.

reddit claims to have been very instrumental in this. supposedly redditors moved thousands of domains off of godaddy to other hosts when it became known that godaddy not only supported sopa but had gotten language written onto the bill exempting them from some of it's effects.

Last night I was helping my 4th grader study for his History test which they are currently going over the Revolutionary War. He had to learn the beginning part of the Declaration of Independence we all know, "We hold these truths to be self-evident..." etc., etc. ending in "Life, liberty, and the pursit of happiness..." But it is good to read the rest of the document, especially this part:

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. LaFeyette got tired of hearing the excuses of his hero's as to why it wasn't practical to free their slaves so he decided to show how it could be be done. He bought a plantation (in French New Guinea I believe), freed the slaves there, then said they could leave or stay on wages and he built a school for those that decided to stay. Over the years he continued to expand the operation buying up nearby properties and freeing any slaves that came with those purchases.
