I keep thinking how great this team would be if Wainwright hadn't tore up his elbow, and if we had a real closer, and if Green, Freese, Berkman and Ryan Theriot could play defense . . .

Still, with the fantastic starting pitching from 3 out of 5 starters and the never stop offense, the Birds are fun to watch between errors. If Carpenter and Pujols ever wake up, and I'm starting to doubt that they will, but if they do, look out world !!

just keep beaning Pujols in the elbow about once a month with a 90mph fastball. He'll bat .212 for the rest of the season.

Funny how she mentions nothing of the past weekends events and waits to post once the Reds finally lose one.

Well, since the Reds lost AGAIN, I guess it's safe to post. Funny how last season the Cards would clobber the Reds and then go stone cold, but this year the Cards got beat in the Gap and got hot. . . funny.

In light of the injuries and weird under-performance, it's amazing the Cardinals are in first place. Wainwright out for the year, Freese out till July, Skip out, Holliday out, even Berkman is hurt, in addition, Pujols' bat is AWOL, Carpenter's forgotten how to pitch, and Franklyn's rabbit's foot ran out of luck, but the team keeps drawing on a much disparaged minor league system using Craig, Salas, Sanchez, Descalso, Green, and even Pete 'freaking' Kozma to plug holes.

I don't know how this will turn out, but you got'a think that once the wounded return and Carpenter and Pujols remember who they are, this team should be great.

Well look who it is.

Is she really bragging about beating the worst team in baseball twice?

Now what was it Red's fans kept saying last fall? "We did a better job of playing the schedule."

Sauce for the goose.

Last night's game stunk especially bad as Carpenter out pitched Francis, but Carp's teammates helped neither offensively nor defensively.

Carp was absolutely dominating the Royals; they could barely get a ball out of the infield. The Royals had 3 hits in the first five innings; two were high hoppers to 3B and one a can of corn that landed in front of Jay in right. Cardinal hitters had numerous scoring chances against Francis, base-runners all over the place, but didn't score. So in a nothing nothing game in the 7th inning, a soft liner fell in front of Craig in left; then Rasmus failed to reach a long fly ball hit into left center. Don't know what Rasmus was thinking, any decent CF catches that ball, but he misplays it into a double. After that Carpenter lost it.

Carpenter is a great pitcher when he has solid support, but he doesn't react well to defensive lapses by his fielders. I expect that'll continue to be a problem as these guys don't play good defense.

Rasmus looks more and more like a talented underachiever; he's got 10 talent and a 3 brain. Jon Jay is starting to look like a better alternative in CF.
