Yeah, he's a good kid. Very proud of him.
U*NC is the cleanest most honest athletic program on the planet. I am jealous of their deserved success, and I'm a mewling cunt.

Pretty sick. I guess the Great Lakes up in the Buffalo area are big enough to warrant a cigarette boat but there are several in our lake (Lanier) and I can't imagine they ever get over 60MPH. There's one around the corner from me (not a cigarette boat but similar) that shakes my whole house when he fires it up.

He is from Onslow County, which is on the water and home to Camp Lejune.

Re: North Carolina State Wolfpack
Augie,
Any suggestions on what to do with a nearly 15 year old kid in the NE Raleigh area? My oldest is getting a tryout for the USA National Baseball team (we're still in amazement) this weekend, so we'll be in the Raleigh area from Thursday to Sunday. We probably won't have much free time but if you have any recommendations, I'd love to see something outside of the stadium and hotel.
The stadium is in Cary and our hotel is near the airport.

What did you have in mind? For two choices on the opposite ends of the scale (but very near to each other in physical location), there's an art museum not too far from the airport, as well as the state fairgrounds which I believe has a huge flea market every weekend. Dorton Arena (at the fairgrounds) is worth a ride-by just to check out the architecture...

If you want real culture, however, you'll probably need to drive over to Chapel Hill...

Thanks Hedge. I don't think he'd enjoy an art museum but the flea market might work. The entire schedule hasn't been posted yet so we may be booked for 12 hours a day.
Wish him luck! He got cut (unfairly) from his middle school team a year and a half ago and has absolutely busted his ass to improve. Now he's likely going to be a 4 year starter for high school, was MVP of his summer league, and as a result was invited to try out for the most prestigious program in the nation. If nothing else, just having his name on the list and showcasing his talents for a litany of college and MLB scouts will be a good thing.

There are several nice golf courses around Raleigh, and Raleigh has some decent restaurants as well. If you want to drink, head down to Fayetteville Street at night. The Oxford has a great Sunday brunch buffet to help with your hangover.

Depends on how far you want to drive. Not much going on on the eastern side of Raleigh that I can remember. The art museum that Hedge is talking about is West of Raleigh. There's always the natural history museum and North Carolina museum downtown. My boys enjoyed both of those into their teens. The State capital and governors mansion are also within a couple of blocks as well as the town square that has several statues dedicated to North Carolina dead in the various wars. Pretty cool area with some restaurants near by. <obligatory>You can also take him to State's campus and show him a school where the students actually attend class. </obligatory>

Thanks Augie, some good ideas. Checking out the campus actually isn't a bad idea...he's on track for an athletic scholarship but has never been a motivated student. So seeing some hot coeds walking around campus might be a further incentive to work harder in school.

Re: North Carolina State Wolfpack
Campus is about three miles from downtown on Hillsborough st. As an added bonus head back into town on Western Blvd and show him central prison and hint that's where he may end up if his grades dont improve.
Cedar Hills disc golf course is on Six Forks rd in North Raleigh. Also the Town of Wake Forest of a few miles north of Raleigh. You can show him the original campus for Wake Forest University before it moved to Winston Salem.

Don't get State's campus confused with Central Prison. They look similar. State's campus really is an abomination visually. You would think that a trade school with architects could do better.KeviNole wrote:Thanks Augie, some good ideas. Stop by all three main universities. As a 15 year old, it'd be good for him to see students in the college setting.
My Dad is my hero still.
