Yes. Soldiers sign for and are responsible for all that stuff, and pay for it if they lose it. They turn in it when they return to their home base.

Both times I deployed, it was on a civilian airliner chartered by the military, so having 4 bags was not an issue. When I came home on leave, it was on a regular airline ticket, but it was also before the airlines came up with baggage fees, so it was still not an issue.

I read that all the major airlines just dropped their baggage fees for returning soldiers, so it won't be an issue again.

That's good news.
