Who will be held accountable for the deaths of nine people during a biker-club shootout in the middle of a Twin Peaks restaurant parking lot in broad daylight in 2015?

No one, the McLennan County, Tex., district attorney’s office announced Tuesday.

Barry Johnson, the county’s district attorney, said his office would drop all remaining charges against the bikers, bringing the years-long saga to a remarkably anticlimactic end without obtaining a single conviction against any of the notorious brawl’s participants.

The announcement comes nearly four years after roughly 200 members of rival motorcycle clubs descended on the Waco, Tex., strip mall parking lot, allegedly to settle a territorial dispute. Before long, it devolved into a bloody melee. Terrified diners enjoying a midday lunch took cover in the restaurant as dozens of Bandidos and Cossacks bikers exchanged gunfire and brandished knives. Overwhelmed police failed to stop the violence, instead adding to it with more gunfire. In just minutes, nine people died, making it the deadliest biker shootout in U.S. history. At least 20 were critically injured. Dozens of guns and knives were abandoned as swarms of tattooed men scattered.

Nearly everyone at the scene — 177 people — was arrested.

What followed was a prosecutorial fiasco, as one by one, the criminal cases collapsed under a former district attorney’s leadership. During the four years of prosecution against dozens of alleged gang members, only a single case went to trial, resulting in a mistrial. The vast majority of the original 177 cases were dismissed.

For Johnson, who took office Jan. 1, the mess he inherited was too hopeless to clean up. He suspected further prosecution of the remaining 24 individuals would fail, just like the rest. It was time to let it go, he said.

“I do not believe that it is a proper exercise of my judgment ... to proceed with the further prosecution of what I believe to have been an ill-conceived path that this District Attorney’s Office was set upon almost four years ago,” Johnson wrote in his statement, “and I do not believe that path should continue to be pursued.”

Puerto Ricans Represented Throughout U.S. Military History > U.S. ...
https://dod.defense.gov › News › Article

Officially, Puerto Ricans started serving in the United States military in 1899 with the creation of the Battalion of Porto Rican Volunteers. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans have been drafted or volunteered to serve in all the branches of the military

A disproportionate (upwards) number of Puerto Ricans have served in the US military. Plus many thousands helped build the Panama Canal. They are Americans. Their island is no more a shithole than Mississippi.

Well, I doubt they really investigated the actual cause of the whole thing, and probably the ones who actually killed all 9 people...the police.

The article says three times, but I saw a montage on Morning Joe this a.m. where Trump clearly speaks into a mic and in front of cameras FIVE TIMES with the lie that his father was born in Germany. 5 times is not a slip....Obama said '57 states' once and laughs about it to this day. 5 times...is a compulsion, right? He's been challenged on this false claim before...yet he keeps making it. What's up with that?

Basically hundreds of bikers showed up to some kind of club meeting (or gang parley as the police ludicrously called it) even though other clubs were there besides the two who are enemies I guess. Police showed up in force beforehand, including like snipers on roofs and other bulshit prepared for a war. Probably some kind of scuffle happened (because there's like hundreds of idiot bikers at a breastaurant) and the police opened fire on them (and of course bikers are armed to the teeth too). Theres certainly video of the thing, but nobody is getting convicted probably because not a single biker can be proven to have killed someone and theres no evidence anybody went there to start a shootout or even a fight (despite the police claims). The only thing that makes sense is all 9 victims turned out to actually be shot by the cops.

there is something to be said about if you're going to show up to a biker territory fight with a gun, and the police are there in force,

you get what you deserve

in a lighter note....

Two Rogers men reportedly shot each other during a night of drinking while each man tried on a bulletproof vest.

Charles Eugene Ferris, 50, and Christopher Hicks, 36, were both arrested Sunday (March 31) in connection with aggravated assault -- a Class D felony.

A Benton County sheriff's deputy took the initial report from Ferris at the hospital, where Ferris invented a lively story to cover for Hicks.

Ferris said he was hired to protect an "asset," who paid him $200 to follow him into the woods at Hobbs State Park, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Ferris said the pair went out into the woods and met another man around 10 p.m. The man approached Ferris' "asset" when a gunfight broke out. Ferris said he was struck six times, but also managed to return fire before driving off with the "asset," according to the affidavit.

Ferris said the "asset" dropped him off at his vehicle before he dumped his weapons and drove himself to Mercy Hospital.

However, Ferris' wife arrived at the hospital a short time later, telling investigators that her husband and Hicks shot each other while drinking on the back porch of their home on Deer Run Lane.

Ferris later recanted his initial story to deputies, saying he made it up to keep Hicks from getting in trouble, according to the affidavit.

Ferris said he had been wearing the vest when he asked Hicks to shoot him with a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle. The vest stopped the bullet, but still hurt and left a mark on his chest.

Ferris, now "pissed" because he was hurting from the shot, "unloaded the clip into Christopher's back," according to the affidavit.

Hicks' only suffered bruising from the gunshots.

Ferris initially told his wife "he was fine" after the shooting, but complained about the pain, so she told him to go to the hospital, according to the affidavit.

CNN for fucks sake

During an interview with former FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday, CNN host Christiane Amanpour said that Trump supporters chanting "lock her up" qualified as "hate speech" and went as far as suggesting that the government should have banned people from saying it.

The controversial remarks came when Amanpour began asking Comey about the FBI's criminal investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"Of course, 'Lock her up' was a feature of the 2016 Trump campaign," Amanpour said. "Do you, in retrospect, wish that people like yourself, the head of the FBI, I mean, the people in charge of law and order – had shut down that language? That it was dangerous potentially, that it could have created violence, that it’s kind of hate speech? Should that have been allowed?"

"That’s not a role for government to play. The beauty of this country is, people can say what they want, even if it’s misleading and it’s demagoguery," Comey responded. "The people who should have shut it down were Republicans who understand the rule of law and the values that they claim to stand for. Shame on them, but it wasn't a role for government to play."
