Trump was probably tied with Carson as the least competent of the GOP presidential field. But he made a huge splash with his immigration hard line, and that more than anything carried him to the nomination. He crucified Jeb, Ted, and Kasich for being pussies about considering amnesty or anything short of rounding up the 11 mil and shipping them south in railroad cars.

So Wednesday he trots out his new softer approach, making allowances for illegals if they pay back taxes. He even polled one of his town halls that evening to see how they thought about it.

Poor Ann Coulter had a book release party THE SAME NIGHT for her "In Trump We Trust", where the key element of the book was her love of the deportation scheme. Now the entire printing is going straight into the waste bin, and witnesses say she was distraught and moved to tears. Limbaugh otoh on his show went into a maniacle giggling fit about her book fiasco and Trump's flip-flop. Other rw pundits have clammed up about Trump's new immigration "stance," perhaps out of shock or battle fatigue.
