Just one day after 2019 five-star guard Tyrese Maxey talked about reclassifying to the class of 2018, yet another massive update has been announced in terms of his recruitment.
According to Jon Rothstein, Tyrese’s father, Tyrone, is officially no longer part of the SMU coaching staff.

I'm not a fan of hiring the dad to get the kid
in this case as a UK fan it doesn't hurt UK but its still shitty that once they realize his kid isn't coming, he is no longer needed.

So SMU hired his dad in a bid to get the kid to go there? Couldn't he still go there?

do you think he will after his dad is no longer a coach after being there 1 season?

This is a bit more complicated from an NCAA rules standpoint.
SMU hired Maxey's dad as a recruiting director and not as an assistant coach. Its perfectly legal to hire someone associated with a recruit, but they have to be one of the 3 recruiting assistant coaches to sign players who have an association with them. The loophole is that you can have someone besides an assistant coach related to a kid if you had them on your staff oover 2 years before the kid signs, which is why SMU hired Maxey's dad early, so that it was 2 years before the kid signed. Pretty sure if the kid is signing this year, there is no way he can go to SMU under NCAA rules unless his Dad was rehired as an actual assistant coach.

I meant why would they fire him if the kid is still available. If I'm reading this right (and I may not be), they were willing to have him on staff in order to get the kid in 2019 and now he's reclassifying to 2018 so they'd get him a year sooner. If the kid goes elsewhere, that's when you fire pappy...

Diallo expected to sign with an agent
no surprise - the kid tried to go pro before he even played a minute for us
He was easily the most frustrating player this year, Nick Richards was a distanct second, but I still would have liked for him to come back because he appeared to figure it out the last 4 or 5 games.
