I don't think you can have it both ways.

I don't think you can fully support the second amendment but fight mental health laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of unstable people

For months, we have been warning you about the so-called “red flag” bills that are being passed in states around the country. These laws allow family members, friends, and even complete strangers to turn gun owners into police to have their firearms confiscated. It is then up to the gun owner to prove that he or she deserves the right to keep and bear arms. It completely turns the justice system on its head. Under these laws, gun owners are presumed guilty until proven innocent.

On Monday morning, police officers in Anne Arundel County, Maryland showed up confiscate 60-year-old Gary J Willis’ guns. A family member had called police and asked them to suspend Gary Willis’ gun rights, and the local police department was more than happy to oblige.

When the pounding on the door began at 5:17 am, Gary showed up to his door holding a firearm. When he saw it was police, he put the gun down to talk to them. But then, the officers informed him they were there to confiscate all of his weapons.

Imagine how you would feel. You wake up out of a sound sleep to pounding on your door. You grab a gun in case it is a criminal, but it turns out that the police are there to confiscate your guns without even accusing you of committing a crime…

Gary Willis refused to comply with the confiscation order. That is when the fight broke out. During the struggle, one of the weapons discharged. Police, fearing for their lives, opened fire on Gary Willis, killing the 60-year-old man in his own home.

Gary Willis was not charged or even accused of committing a crime. All of this happened because one extended family member told police she was worried that he was dangerous. No evidence, no proof… just one person’s word. And now, an innocent man is dead.

But the bigger point here is the man was having a constitutionally guaranteed right taken away from him by force without due process.

If that really is the headline, then the details in the story prove it to be a lie. He put his gun down and talked to police. He didn't like what he heard, and went for his weapon knowing he was outnumbered and outgunned...sounds pretty red-flaggish to me.

As for the BLM reference - it goes without saying there would have been no talking if the guy was black.

I'd never argue with a black person about that particular pov. If she's wrong, she probably didn't miss by much.

I'd wager a quarter that we're not as racist as many of the states who touch our border. So there's that.

also, she seems to have a problem with white men voting Republican in their best interest but do you think she has a problem with the 91% of African Americans who voted for Obama or that she ran unopposed in a city with a 65% African American population? , that btw, has a 98.5% higher crime rate than other comparable cities

Stop blaming white men , start figuring out a way to get the crime rate down to make Memphis more attractive to those uneducated white rebublican voters who have all the wealth you think you deserve for being born.

It's not surprising that a man who got rich thanks to inheritance and tax evasion and got famous for being a rich asshole does not have a huge amount of reverence for the office he now holds. Trump's presidency has in many ways been predictable. Of course he bails on his job to golf. Of course his press shop is brazenly dishonest. Of course he gets into weird arguments with veterans over Apocalypse Now. Of course he demands military parades and then cancels them. Of course he nonsensically promises a pre-midterm tax cut he can't possibly deliver. And of course he's spinning conspiracy theories about voter fraud.

For all the talk of his racism and lying and bush-league authoritarianism, Trump is also, much more fundamentally, a blowhard in way over his head. Trump's bad impression of a president is causing the country to slip further into a fugue state of endless bickering and bad faith and viciousness. The US is led by a lazy, ignorant narcissist, and we won't know what kind of damage that will do to us until it's over.
