As a grandson of a rabid Paisley-ite, I can see how the UK's participation in the EU could be interpreted as a marriage of God's elect people with the same Europe that is prophesied to be the playground of the Whore of Babylon (I.e. The Roman Catholic Church, or the Pope). That's some big stuff. Darby, Scofield, and Walvoord say it is.

I believe the press has this wrong. Yes, most Northern Ireland would have liked to be part of the EU, but only through Britain. Given the choice between going independent with the EU and staying with the Queen, they'd choose the latter. And, hell no, they're certainly not hitching up with the terrorists to the south.

Sounds about right.

I know how the old Protestants in Ulster look at things. But I'm curious how the younger Protestants do. I wonder if they get all weepy eyed talking about Billy crossing the Boyne, proudly adorn their orange sashes and march through Catholic neighborhoods and banging giant drums, like their grandparents did. If they're like younger Protestants in the US, they probabably support gay marriage and want to save the planet. Why not join the Republic? They listen to U2!

George Will: Trump's Judge Comments Prompted Exit from GOP - CNN
"This is not my party" - George Will Exits GOP - Wall Street Journal
Will Jumps from Sinking Ship That is GOP - HuffPo
"Glad the Gimp is gone": Alex Jones - InfoWars

So the person universally regarded as THE smart republican has dropped the mic and hit the door running. Quoted by all here numerous times, be it mouth-breathers or bed-wetters...George Will has had enough of the Trump "silliness." He will be missed.

Former Secretary of Defense and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Leon Panetta has embarked on a media tour full of criticism of President Barack Obama's foreign policy.

Panetta's criticism has been squarely aimed at the president's handling of the situation in Syria and Iraq over the past few years.

He has painted Obama's decision not to enforce his own "red line" against the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad as a mistake that hurt US credibility. And he has said Obama has made decisions that have created a vacuum for the rise of extremists like the group calling itself the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL).

Oh my!

Also, remember that according to some of the smartest people in the world we are experiencing the greatest economy of all time, low unemployment being the most cited reason.....

Assuming 2.67% RGDP growth for 2016, Obama will leave office having produced an average of 1.55% growth, no quarter above 3%. This would place his presidency fourth from the bottom of the list of 39, above only those of Herbert Hoover (-5.65%), Andrew Johnson (-0.70%) and Theodore Roosevelt (1.41%)

"according to some of the smartest people in the world we are experiencing the greatest economy of all time"

Kinda explains why you are not espousing the same...

SCOTUS rules against Texas and it's onerous abortion clinic restrictions. Our clown-college legislature in Tennessee passed the same measures, so those will get tossed with a court challenge as well.

Professor Tiger wrote: On a different note, a question for JD: why no riots in Baltimore over the acquittal of the cop who was driving the van where Freddie Gray got into a police van healthy, and got out with a broken neck and died shortly thereafter? You'd think that BLM would be amassing and lighting the molotov cocktails to burn Baltimore down. Could it be that this sudden discovery of civic restraint is because the accused cop and the prosecutor are both black? It just doesn't fit the BLM paradigm?

Personally, as a law enforcement kind of guy, I'm looking for someone's ass to kick in that case. When you put somebody in cuffs, you just became their bodyguard. Something fatal happened to Freddie Gray in that van that broke his neck while surrounded by law enforcement officers. Somebody needs to go to jail for that.
The best way to punish Baltimore is to leave it the way that it is - a shithole of the first order.

There are plenty of prolonged protests in Baltimore - so many that a blowup is unlikely because there are "pressure releases" daily in the form of smaller protests. One of my clergy colleagues there is under assault from the protesters for not being visibly supportive enough. Mind you, he's been on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, the Today Show and GMA, written op-eds in the NY Times, etc., but the protesters don't think it is enough. His point of view is that there are so many protests in Baltimore that if he went to every one of them, he couldn't get any work done.

These protests you speak of in Baltimore sound a lot like the protests you tell us us that are happening in Chicago because of the ongoing slaughter of black lives there. If they are happening, they are getting zero national publicity.

It came as a shock around here. She had been in an assisted care facility for a couple of years but appeared to be ok under the circumstances. Then word leaked 3 days ago that hospice arrived and the situation was grave.

Given the nature of the disease, it's probably for the best for all concerned. Why drag out that kind of life for 10 years or more?
