I didn't move to Cinci until well after Pete Rose, hell I didn't move to Cinci until after Eric Davis, so I'm not as attached to the Pete Rose thing as someone who grew up here.

If Pete Rose had rigged the system somehow to get his hits, I'd never want him in the HOF. But as far as I know, the man did it all on the up and up. So there is no logical reason for him to not be in the HOF. You can't recognize the accomplishment and not the player. If the accomplishment is legit, then he needs to be in there.

However you can't make that argument for McGuire, Bonds, A-Rod or anyone in the steroids era of baseball.

Pete Rose doesn't have a credibility issue in regards to how he earned his stats. Bonds and Clemens do.

If the Hall of Fame is about recognizing players that rose above their peers at the professional level, then Rose deserves to be in.

If the Hall of Fame is about protecting the honor and sanctity of the game, then it should change what it honors for admission.

Clearly, the stats were there before they used amphetamines. You are trying to adjust back from the time they cheated to discredit what they did before. Quite similar to Rose, the thing you did later discredits you from being in the HOF. Rose knew this before he started gambling. Bonds and Clemens didn't.

That being said, let Rose in, AFTER HE DIES and after Shoeless Joe (who stats were certainly there before gambling to warrant a HOF entrance).
