Prof was referring to the "Three Strikes and You're Out" policy signed by Clinton.

That's a bad one too, no doubt, but Prof said it was Clinton who signed in federal mandatory minimums and further claimed that it was "the greatest injustice visited upon black America since since slavery and Jim Crowe." Why did lie, Prof?

I'm hoping that it's more than Heidi attempting suicide. Something like working as an escort during during her grad school years or a receipt from an abortion during her marriage.bluetick wrote:Trump and Cruz Continue Bizarre Twitter Battle Over Their Wives - TIME

PS - whenever I hear the name Heidi Cruz, I always think about this guy:
Hector "Heity" Cruz
During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."

I said Clinton's crime bill "included" mandatory minimums. I didn't say he invented them.hedge wrote:That's a bad one too, no doubt, but Prof said it was Clinton who signed in federal mandatory minimums and further claimed that it was "the greatest injustice visited upon black America since since slavery and Jim Crowe." HuffPo said the same thing, word for word:
"Clinton's 1994 omnibus crime bill included mandatory minimum sentences, even for minor drug crimes..."
http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/bill-cli ... 6514d0e220
Like the rest of the article says, Clinton now admits his role in exploding the prison population, including the black prison population. If Reagan started it, shame on him. But also shame on Clinton, Bush Sr and Obama in his first 7 years for letting the terrible consequences of mandatory minimums cause so much destruction for so long. But kudos to Obama for finally doing something to stop it.
I still think mandatory is the greatest injustice for black people since slavery. To send millions of young, first time, non violent offenders to prison for 15 years for a shot glass full of cocaine is outrageous. On this subject, your stalwart conservative Professor Tiger is a flaming liberal. Enjoy the rare spectacle, boys.

No, that is actually perfectly in line with what most conservatives claim to be their views, they just abandon them when it comes to drugs. Glad you're not one of those. Drug law reform isn't exclusively a conservative issue or a liberal issue, it's actually a point where both can agree. Obviously their are sinister forces at work with reasons of their own (and always have been when it comes to this issue) that would prefer to have drugs illegal and users demonized and criminalized. Somebody is getting something out of it, that's for certain...

Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
One of the reasons I was a big Rand Paul fan is he actually talked a lot about sentencing reform.
Aside from the immorality of whopping sentences for minor drug offenses, there is the issue of the cost to the taxpayer. The government budgets around $25K per inmate per year. Multiply that by a typical 15 year drug sentence, and that is a lot of money.
Then, figure that you arrest a 20 year old who just made a stupid mistake, lock him up for 15 years, then release him back to society. If he wasn't a hardened criminal before, he probably is now. He has no marketable skills, will likely be unemployed, and will ply the only trade he knows in crime. There is a 50% chance he will wind up back in prison, and the $25k per year meter starts running again.
For those conservatives who care deeply about money, this scenario is an incredible waste of it.

Hell, does ISIS even rise to the level of junior varsity anymore? They haven't mounted an offensive in 9 months, they lost Raqqa two months ago, Palmyra last week and they've lost half of the territory they considered their "caliphate." Mosul will fall this spring and they're losing their top people on the order of one every 3 days.
Looks more and more like they aspire to be a worldwide irish republican army, except with suicide bombers instead of delivered bomb packages.

Uh, no. Raqqa is their capital and is still very much in ISIS hands. You're thinking of Ramadi. You're welcome.bluetick wrote:Hell, does ISIS even rise to the level of junior varsity anymore? ... they lost Raqqa two months ago...

I don't think the people of Brussels would share your minimalist assessment of the evil of ISIS. Neither would the people of San Bernadino. Or all the people they beheaded, especially the Christians.
And I don't seem to recall the IRA doing stuff like this:

I don't think anybody killed by the IRA would share your minimalist assessment of their evil, either. But of course its understood that you are an apologist for any evil foisted on anybody by so called christians...

But the IRA was targeting TRUE Christians in their terror. You, hedge, would be most joyous over that.
