I stand by my initial assessment of Trump. He will be the first nominee of a major US party whose candidacy was entirely based on pop culture appeal. He is the Kim Kardashian of American politics - the epitome of famous for being famous. His typical voter would say:
"Trump? Yeah, he used to be on tv! He hired apprentices and give them really cool jobs. But sometimes he'd just fire people, and even make 'em cry and stuff. It was so great! And he owns a bunch of rocking' hotels all over the place, and has a smokin' hot wife. Dude has it all. I wish I were him. Yeah, I'll vote for him. "
God help us.

I don't think it's pop culture that is driving this. If so, his constituents would be a different age and race demographic. I think people are finally so fed up with the two party tyranny they are willing to tear it all down.
Here is a good article on Trump's appeal to the Republican base.

Outstanding article. Thanks.
I identify with many of Trump's critiques, particularly the corruption of the Establishment and the PC assault on free speech and faith. I want an enforced southern border, but I don't hate illegal immigrants already here like he does.
I just don't think he's the guy with the temperament or skills to fix those problems.

Great article on Trump by Tucker Carlson? The sum of it is The Donald isn't PC about his disdain for illegal Hispanics and legal Muslims. Nothing about economic policy, nothing about foreign policy...education, environment, infrastructure - nada.
We'll see if Make America White Again is a winning strategy. That it's got this far and with this much energy is definitely an eye opener...if that's Carlson's main point, then I'll concede it to him.

"The Donald isn't PC about his disdain for illegal Hispanics and legal Muslims."
Exactly

Yeah, exactly, but tick's (correct) point is that that isn't nearly enough to get you elected president. Or I guess I should say, if it is, we're fucked....

I doubt Trump can beat Hillary, unless she's indicted, and then pardoned.
On second thought, I doubt Trump can beat Hillary even if she's indicted and then pardoned. She's a Clinton, after all.

The Democrats assume he’s a bigot, pandering to the morons out there in the great dark space between Georgetown and Brentwood.
That's pure gold.

I am honored that you would use the term "assassinated," suggesting the demise of an important person.

By now everyone knows about this fraud perpetrated by the Cruz campaign at the eleventh hour of the Iowa caucuses. It's really a two part deception: 1) the recipient is "officially" "in violation", presumably by a governing body, and 2)the recipient is shamed for a poor voting record, along with 6 of his/her's closest neighbors. An investigation has determined that nearly every person with a mailer gets a 55% and F grade even if they've never missed an election.
You had to figure Cruz would blame it on an overzealous staffer, right? Instead he copped to it - even said it was a worthwhile attempt to spur people into doing their civic duty. Apparently Iowans aren't amused, however.

I've seen this bullshit before. Cruz hardly invented it, its typical politician schlock. We got similar garbage from whoever was running in local democrat spots in college, presumably because if they could shame more younger voters into showing up, that they might win more of those votes.

Not to be outdone, Rubio's gang sent out a similar mailer, complete with a voting record scorecard with big red Xs. But they wimped out on the "violators will be prosecuted" theme.

Oh sure, we get last second hatchet job mailings in local races around here, usually from some shadowy PAC whose message is disavowed by the candidate it aims to please.
The big difference is Cruz standing up and owning the fraud. Big, BIG, difference.
