Plain and simp... can he coach offense? I think he can motivate some of the slackers to D up a little better but the offensive side leaves a lot of question marks. Will they keep the triangle or will he go in a different direction?

Looks like The Triangle is gone for good. It looks like he's gonna run a conventional offense that initiates via an entry into the post. I don't remember what they ran in San Antone, but I'm guessing it'll be very similar.

20 years today, Magic announced his retirement due to his testing positive for HIV. I'll never forget that day.

No Auggie. I guess I just worded that wrong. I probably should have said unsettling or disturbing.

Hmph, so Joey was not the two-left-shoe-wearing misfit after all.

Didn't know Kobe was dong this.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... -a-new-cba

WINNER: Kobe Bryant

He’s now the NBA’s highest-paid player and a guy who made the right moves in the lockout, toying with various overseas backup plans while looking good back home by offering to lend money to NBA colleagues in need.

I don't know if he ever had to cut a check, but he (along with some others, I thought) were setting up a credit facility for players if any had free cash flow problems.

It wasn't a zero interest loan, though.

You have to charge interest. Otherwise it's a gift that if enough would subject Kobe to a gift tax.

Ding on Bynum

Hey, hey, hey - looks like we might get a season after all.

While I still think Bynum is fragile, this is interesting:

A source close to Los Angeles Lakers Center Andrew Bynum has been predicting that he would end up being traded to Orlando Magic for months now and reiterated that sentiment to HOOPSWORLD today. The belief is based off the assumption that the Magic are eventually going to be willing to trade All-Star center Dwight Howard.

For the first time in three summers, Bynum was healthy and spent the prolonged offseason preparing himself for what should be the best year of his career. The source classified Bynum as “indifferent” to all the trade talk and willing to play wherever. This is the third time he’s been rumored to be the centerpiece of a package for an All-Star, previously being involved in discussions for Kevin Garnett and Jason Kidd.

The source also spoke highly regarding how good of a fit Bynum would be in Orlando, stating that it’s his time to be the man. Bynum voiced the desire to be more of a featured option at the conclusion of last season, but it’s going to be hard for that to happen as long as Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant are still Lakers.

While Kupchak remained guarded with his answers, Lakers forward Matt Barnes was much more open when asked about the rumors surrounding his former teammate Howard.

"You know, I've been hearing Dwight. I've been hearing Baron [Davis]. I've been hearing stuff a lot lately," Barnes said. "I've talked to both of those guys and they want to be here, so we'll see what happens."

Jesse Buss reportedly arrested on alcohol charge
December 2nd, 2011, 8:19 pm · · posted by KEVIN DING, OCREGISTER.COM

Jesse Buss, youngest son of Lakers owner Jerry Buss, was arrested early Friday morning on an alcohol charge in Lexington, Ky., according to a report by WDRB-TV’s Tamara Evans on Twitter.

Buss, 23, was reportedly arrested at 3:39 a.m., and according to Evans: “He demanded preferential treatment from officers. He kept telling officers he was the son of Jerry Buss, owner of the L.A. Lakers.”

Buss doesn’t have a role with the Lakers. He shares the same mother as Joey Buss, who said in his recent interview about his family that he is closest in the family to Jesse — and acknowledged Jesse likes to maintain a lifestyle that includes a lot of club-going.

Jerry Buss was arrested back in 2007 for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol in Carlsbad.
