Though you're trying to mock Bernie, this is precisely what the Naval War College has been teaching for at least the last 35 years. The premise is that as people who live near the equator or in desert/drought areas run out of water, they're going to come and get water from the people who have it.

Most folks don't realize it but nearly all of the drinkable water in the middle east is "fossil water" from sealed aquifers and is not replenishable. Once they drink it, it's gone.

France has been attacked 3 times this year if you count Charlie Hebdo and the subway car incident. Their president in a speech basically declared war on ISIS. France has a considerably larger army than ISIS and it's infinitely better equipped. France has an air force and navy, and ISIS has neither. France has nukes. So....

If the French (and Belgium) want to put boots on the ground in Iraq and Syria, have at it. But if they don't, I suspect it's because they watched the world's #1 superpower get bogged down militarily in that region for 14 years and counting with results that leave a lot to be desired. Meanwhile the jihadists have been given a recruiting coup and are now willing and able to branch out with their terror. So it looks like a long slog ahead, mostly with airstrikes whilst the Kurd and Iraqi Shia armies get up to speed.

But then you have brain-dead idiots like Lindsay Graham wanting to put 50,000 U.S. troops over there right now. I suspect he has some backers here at PNN even..but maybe I'm wrong. The WH sent a Syria-Iraq War resolution proposal to the republican Congress last February and it stalled, so maybe Graham's bloodlust won't get anywhere.

I blame this on NASA. When Obama was elected, he gave the NASA director its new primary mission - to reach out to the Muslim world and help them appreciate their true greatness. If NASA had done a better job enhancing the self-esteem of the Muslim world instead of wasting their time and resources exploring space, the terrorists wouldn't have felt the need to attack Paris.

As Syria deteriorated in August 2013, President Obama floated the idea of updating the calcified 2001 and 2002 resolutions that Congress approved after 9/11 and prior to the most recent war in Iraq.

The legislative effort never got off the ground. Obama could never come within a stone's throw of mustering the necessary votes to authorize military action. ISIL's influence then grew and Obama reverted to simply notifying Congress "consistent with" the 1973 War Powers Resolution of various military exploits against the emerging ISIL threat in Iraq and parts of Syria.

Recently retired House Speaker John Boehner repeatedly called on Obama to send Congress an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) to fight ISIL. When the AUMF finally arrived months later, Boehner did not act upon it. Months after that, he asked the president to send another one.

The bottom line is the same as it was in the late summer of 2013: Congress can't corral the votes to approve an AUMF. Some want tighter parameters. Others want looser parameters. Some fret about the money. Others believe the move would project the U.S. onto a treadmill of "endless war." After the Iraq and Afghanistan experiences, lawmakers don't want to be on the hook for another war. By the same token, they don't want to make the wrong call and vote against war should a resolution hit the floors of the House and Senate.

Nuke 'em? Which ones - the extemists? Which ones are the extremists - the Nigerians, the Syrians, the Taliban, ISIL, Al Qaeda, the Omani, the Palestinians, the Saudis, the Indonesians, the Persians, the Chechins, et. al.?

Nuke all the muslims? That's 1.6 billion people - it'd be impossible to nuke them all and not end up dying ourselves from the radioactive fallout.

Several bin Laden family members invested millions in The Carlyle Group, a private global equity firm based in Washington, DC. The company's senior advisor was Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush. After news of the bin Laden-Bush connection became public, the elder Bush stepped down from Carlyle.

Interestingly, on Sept. 11, 2001, members of the Carlyle Group - including Bush senior, and his former secretary of state, James Baker - were meeting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C., along with Shafiq bin Laden, another one of Osama bin Laden's brothers.

While all flights were halted following the terrorist attacks, there was one exception made: The White House authorized planes to pick up 140 Saudi nationals, including 24 members of the bin Laden family, living in various cities in the U.S. to bring them back to Saudi Arabia, where they would be safe. They were never interrogated.
