If law enforcement majors were shooting African-American studies majors, or they were having Kollegiate Klan rallies in the Quad, or they were putting whites only signs on the water fountains in the dorms, and the president wasn't doing anything about it, then the anger is certainly justified, and the president needs to go.

But if the "racially charged incidents" were merely aggrieving the campus PC thought and speech police - e.g. the president dared to say "all lives matter," or refused demands to rename the stadium after Ta Nehisi Coates, or refused to give black students free tuition as reparations - then that's a completely different story.

*The president of the Missouri Students Association, Payton Head, who is black, touched off the intense discussion of race in September when he posted on Facebook that a group of men had yelled racial slurs at him, and said it was not the first time he had suffered that kind of abuse at the university. His post was shared thousands of times, and drew widespread coverage.

* In early October, the Legion of Black Collegians, a student group, was rehearsing a homecoming event when a white man walked onto its stage and used racial epithets.

* A coalition of Jewish groups told Mr. Loftin that they were “dismayed” by his lack of action after a swastika was drawn [in human feces] on a dormitory wall.

That isn't a ton of stuff, but it's 2015.

Back when I was an undergrad in the early 80s at Miami (OH), we had much, much worse stuff happen.

Jesus...

I don't see much the admin could have done regarding these particular instances other than "act more concerned" I guess. In the second case the guy got expelled. in the 1st and 3rd there is nobody to go after. they don't know who it was or in the first case whether they were even affiliated with the university.

So the ex-president expelled the student that was caught, and he DID order an investigation of the other two incidents. The perpetrators just haven't been caught. Did I get that right? If that's the cause of all the uproar, it's ridiculous.

Tick, who's the long haired guy standing next to George Beverly Shea?

From my understanding there is even some doubt about the poop swastika ever existing. There is no police report or university documentation of it, nor anybody willing to go on the record as having definitely seen it, and the picture sometimes used on the net is supposedly over a year old.

The whole thing smells like BS then. The Mizzou officials should have provided adult supervision to the spoiled self absorbed children rather than resign.

Unless there is something more, this is a shocking misuse of social "justice". The mizzou president should have said "fuck off" and kept on.

Another thing that confuses me is that at A&M, the SBP (and once a black guy when I was there) tended to be fairly popular and they actually were, you know, chosen by the student body? Did the racist campus elect this guy? I assume they did?

The SBP after the black guy was named "Forrest" as I recall, though

In case football players from other programs are thinking about following the Mizzou extortion, the AD's should tell the players that they have a contract with their schools. They play football in return for a free college education. If they fail to live up to their part of the contract, they will be kicked off the team for breach of contract and charged for all the tuition they racked up in their careers. If the school loses money because of a strike, they will be sued for their share of the school's lost revenue as damages.

They can go back to their home towns working at the Piggly Wiggly saddled with hundreds of thousands in debt instead of being in the NFL.

Looking for a new pool of players kicked off of their former team for Auburn to recruit?

Yes, always enjoy the tolerant left illustrating who they are, free speech for me, not for thee.

Classic liberalism on display.

There is more - it's not race related, but he was brought in from the private sector and wanted to do the standard right wing profiteer stuff - cut health benefits to lowest tier employees/grad assistants, cut back on staff perks, closed the University's distinguished publishing house and raised tuition, so the faculty has wanted him out for a while.

IIRC, the grad student went on the hunger strike over the health insurance, rather than the race stuff.

So the football players were striking for the staff. Interesting.

The impact of the football team and the black students org is being exaggerated. My understanding is that the Missouri President was on thin ice long before this. The English Dept. voted unanimously for him to be replaced. The Republican-dominated state legislature was calling on him to be replaced.
