File this under "fuck me". DeAnthony Arnett is asking for a release from his scholarship to leave school. Supposedly so he can be closer to home. He had a great upside to him and was heading in the direction of being one of our more valuable receivers. This hurts us.

What subsection should I file that under? Immediate family or Cousins?

Losing Arnett is just the latest in a long list of disappointments that seem to never end for us. One of our most promising young players in a position of real need and now he's gone.

But it's a family issue related to his dad's health, so I don't think we have any choice but to grant him his release and wish him well. He's going to be a great get for Notre Dame or one of the Michigan schools, probably.

Ahh... Dang shame. I didnt' realize his father had died. I wonder what the family situation is like? Sometimes kids feel like they need to move back home and help out some during times like these. I hope someone corners him and points out he can't stay home forever. He'll have to leave eventually unless he actually will stay home forever. It may as well be now he leaves and he should just stay here. Still, it's hard to say what is going on and he ultimately has to do what is best for him and his family. No shame in that at all.

If he does leave, that will leave a huge hole in our receiving corps. Arnett had one of the best season's a freshman has ever had at UT. Talk about big shoes to fill.

Best of luck to him.

Apparently Tennessee will not release Arnett to a BigTen school or Notre Dame, but will release him to a MAC school. Hmmm.

I don't know the details about his dad's health issue, but I have not heard anything about him dying. That would be news to me.

No biggie.

We are going to look bad limiting his choices for transfer. But I'm sure Dooley knows a lot more about it than we do. I would be curious to know how long his dad's health issues have been going on. If he was having problems before Arnett came here last year, then I'm sure it was discussed prior to him becoming a Vol. If all of the health issues have occurred since, then I would say let him go wherever he wants.

Assuming he was already aware of his dad's situation when he decided to come to Knoxville, then I'd say the #1 reason he wants to leave now is the retirement of Charlie Baggett. When Arnett committed to UT, he repeatedly cited Baggett as the #1 reason. Now that Baggett is gone, he may be looking around and seeing another school where he feels his future is brighter. That should not be enough to grant a kid an unconditional release, IMO.

If his dad really is his #1 consideration, then he shouldn't care about which particular school he plays at. Central Michigan would seem to be the best fit. It's closer than either East Lansing or Ann Arbor -- and a lot closer than South Bend. He can still play ball and get a free education. I'm sure they'd love to have him.

Dooley was a great hire. Did you know his dad was a coach?

Hell of a motivator. See UT vs KY.

Arnette needs to be reminded who gave him his showering skills. If that doesnt' convince him to stay, nothing will.
