You do not have to agree with the criteria I believe are critical for achieving the title of head coach.

And I understand it frustrates you because you do not want to agree with me but you don't have sufficient acumen to reasonably defend your own opinion. It makes for a stressful time in the Rickart trailer. So, you start contradicting yourself, and asking what analogies are, and then asking me questions that you later deny even asking me.

So, now my opinion doesn't matter and you call me a large, flightless bird indigenous to Africa as your coup d'état.
To that I can only say what Aleister Crowley said as he met his end: "“I am perplexed. Satan, get out!”

if not 'head football coach'....then what?

serious, it's pathetic at this point
I see your edit. I did answer:

Mike Price ran the program for an entire Spring including the spring game. He was head coach on a national signing day.

He ran nothing. He sat in a golf cart, drunk, during practice and bought drinks for coeds at a wing place on The Strip called Buffalo Phil's until the meeting at the Crowne Plaza in Pensacola. He was basically a drunken sailor on shore leave for 10 weeks.

Joe Kines deserves more of a mention as a head coach at Bama than Price.

As far as the NSD stuff, I would be willing to count it, I suppose, but Fran had that class wrapped up before he left. Price's involvement was nothing more than having some assistants make calls and having someone sit by the fax machine.

I also do not give Bo Rein credit for being a coach at LSU either. If LSU fans want to give him that title in some kinda honorary capacity, so be it. It's not my school.

I think we can all agree that Price discharged his duties poorly as Head Coach at Bama.

I think we could all agree with that if he had ever coached a game. As it is, he never got the chance.

I wonder how many millions Price lost because he never signed the contract? I also wonder if his agent tried to sign for him and have the contract sent by courier after the Pensacola trip.

No, this is different - completely. This is simply a disagreement on definitions. That is, is actually coaching in a game a critical function to be designated head coach?

We agree on all essential facts, it's just I feel actually coaching a game is a required criterion (Sorry Bo Rein and Mike Price; hello Coach Joe Kines).

"This is simply a disagreement on definitions."

I guess the takeaway from all this is that everybody gets to make up their own definitions...

Sort of.

Absent a set definition on what it takes to be considered a head football coach, it is open for interpretation and opinion. The OED is lacking when it comes to this subject.

It's kind of like arguing if The Clash was a true punk rock band. They were a band, no doubt, but nailing down an agreed upon definition of what made a band 'punk' is at best difficult. You could use some of the more nebulous definitions and argue that Leon Redbone was punk and The Clash were not.

Those make for interesting (or not) bar arguments.

AA you spent 4 hours on a saturday night arguing with dave rickart

shouldnt you do those things during the work week instead of on your days off?

1) I spent no where near four hours of time arguing. Although, it was perhaps spread out over four hours, it took me just a few minutes to bang out those posts.

2) I am off all days. One could argue that has been the case for a couple of decades, but definitely true in retirement.

3) I cannot forgive you for allowing your team to miss those FGs and have those turnovers vs Auburn. It was a winnable game and you gave it way.
