I loved watching Soul Train. I especially liked the dance line. "In Living Color" did a spoof on it making it years later and showed the dancers with walkers and wheelchairs...damn, that was hilarious!

Personally, my remembrance is at the barbershop level. Every Saturday I got a Ceasar (or a shape up or a fade, depending on the era) and watched Soul Train on the screen. Of course, there was the ubiquitous female hair product commercial that Michael Jordan filmed.

"Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan, how did you feel when your basket sent the game into overtime?" "I felt...beautiful."

Heh. Yeah, I remember that episode. Was never that much of a Living Color fan but that was one of their funnier skits.

All that does is make me want to mimick the Soul Glo commercial from Coming to America.

"So let your soooooouuuul glo-oh-oh..."

Okay, and now that leads to a morning full of Robin Harris jokes: "You know, people with Jheri Curls can't do no crime. Police be followin' they ass... 'Follow the drips! Follow the drips!"

Soul Train was part of a handful of shows that you had to hunt down to help understand this mysterious popular music. I think having to wait around for Midnight Special, Soul Train, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and the musical guest on SNL (plus a few moments on AB, Sonny and Cher, etc) reinforced the rebellious nature of rock and soul music. Now it's everyone. It's won.

Since the Super Bowl halftime show is one of our few communal musical moments, I'll weigh in:

I liked it. Second only to Prince. A lighthanded parody of the game's imperial pomp with lots of tech, lots of teh gay, lots of Young Stars of Today.

Yeah, I thought Madonna bridged the gap pretty well...from lip syncing, to live vocals. From old material to new stuff. From basic choreography to full-on Caligula's Palace circus shit.

Also, the Tamil Tiger offspring's flip-off to the camera gave it the stomach churning edge that excites the young'uns and offers ample ammunition for "The Man's" crack down on future presentations.

I've not watched a SB Halftime show in over a decade. I didn't even see Janet's saggy titty pop out here in Houston (of course, I was working at the time so it didn't matter, but the point remains).

Yeah, my boy just texted me that. I told my wife and she didn't believe me until she saw it on CNN. Bugged out. Drugs. It'll fuck with you the more you fuck with it.
