Maybe that's why Notre Dame wouldn't join the Big 10. Their priests didn't want the compition.

RIP Joe Pa. The family is confirming his death this morning.

Reminds of how quickly the Bear died after he retired.

Bryant died in January 1983. 28 days after he coached his last game. I do hate that JoePa was fired and spent the last few months of his life in the center of a scandal.

Ironically, iirc, JoePa's last game was against Alabama.

Musburger saying that Paterno himself referred to the Bear and feared a similar fate if he ever retired.

Paterno respected Bryant. Often said he was 'the best coach who ever lived.'

Anyway, not fitting this rule: Bobby Bowden. I saw him a few weeks ago in Bham. He looked great.

I saw Bobby at the golf course a couple of weeks ago - I told him he looked to be in better shape now than when he was coaching - he said he had dropped 20 pounds but it was a struggle because he loves eating

Two words: Joe knew.

His death is probably not the time to debate what he knew about Sandusky, IMO. They'll be plenty of time for that.

I took that to mean he knew he was dying for awhile before the public did.
