Saint wrote:Man, you've lost your way. You really think the NCAA cares about what fans think? As long as they keep spending their money on the NCAA, it's all good.

I've said before the NCAA can and will do how it pleases but I don't think it will hit UNC with a major violation because there's no specific rule that was broken (at least by what has been proven) and, mostly, it endangers the entire business plan for the NCAA if UNC is found guilty. You've had 3 years of Carolina being punished by not being punished with regards to recruiting (at least in men's basketball).

You should look more at how the NCAA handled Syracuse rather than Georgia as a barometer for potential UNC penalties. Syracuse did its time and then went to the Final Four the same year.

Funny how things change. I'm good with UNC just ponying up for its damage and returning to its usual spot in the college basketball pantheon and eCat is has become a screecher for virtue in the game. It's like UNC and UK fans have switched places since the '90s.
Thought the Syracuse punishment to be pretty strong:

Here is a complete list of the penalties the NCAA handed down:

1. Jim Boeheim suspended for nine ACC games in the 2015-16 season.

2. The vacation of 108 of Boeheim's coaching victories, dropping him down to sixth on the all-time wins list in Division I.

3. A reduction of 12 scholarships over four years.

4. Fine of $500 per contest played by ineligible students.

5. Syracuse must return to the NCAA all funds it has received to date through the former Big East Conference revenue sharing for its appearances in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. This could cost the school more than $1 million.

6. Reduction in the number of permissible off-campus recruiters from four to two during June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2017.

7. Men's basketball and football programs placed on five-year probation from March 6, 2015 through March 5, 2020.

Syracuse's self-imposed penalties
1. A one-year postseason ban for men's basketball in the 2014-15 season.

2. A voluntary, two-year term of probation for the athletic department.

3. Elimination of one scholarship for men's basketball for the 2015-2016 season.

4. Elimination of a men's basketball off-campus recruiter for six months during 2015-2016.

5. Vacation of 24 men's basketball wins: (15 in 2004-05 and nine in 2011-12).

6. Vacation of 11 football wins: (six in 2004-05; one in 2005-06; four in 2006-07).

That's right and Syracuse's infractions were worse than UNC's by a long shot. But even after all that they were right back in the FF this year.

Syracuse also self imposed in an admission of guilt and an attempt to lessen the charges

I'm licking my chops about what's going on down in Metzgerland. That's gonna be way juicier than fake classes and nerds taking tests for retards.

they self imposed more stuff today

you don't just get up one day and say 'you know, we didn't punish us enough, lets do it some more" unless some additional bad stuff came out .

the rumor mill is that Coach Mike is now known and the money man is an alumni. If they have two coaches accounted for and an outside money man it jumps to "lack of institutional control" and Mr. Pitino will be unemployed.

So IU is playing Kansas at Pearl Harbor, Butler and Louisville in Indy. Be nice if Coach Cal could muster up some testicular fortitude and schedule a game at the YUM center and then be humble enough to come up Indy the next year. Oh well, one can dream I guess.

we play at the YUM! center every other year

IU doesn't need to play UK. They are on a trajectory for greatness

"Mr. 3 Fingers and no Baby Oil" isn't additional bad stuff? That should have been worth 3 scholarships.

btw, the second person , "Coach Mike" is apparently Mike Balado who came to Pitino's staff in 2013.

no that's the first set of admission

UL hired a guy to advise them on this - Chuck Smrt (not sure how good he is if he can't even fucking spell Smart) but at any rate they are taking his counsel on what to do in order to lessen the spank of the NCAA

the issue is that their second round of announced self imposed punishments are a joke - they have virtually no effect on the team or the coaching staff's ability to field a competitive team - and people on twitter have pounced on it.
