Had to post this, because I actually agree w/DSL.....it's all about civil society, biology, and propagation of the species.
Buggery has been around since the Romans. Hasn't hurt the earth population in any way shape or form.

It never ceases to amaze me at how blind libs are to the unintended consequences of their actions.

Yeah but I don't see the Roman Empire around today, do I?? Another society ruined, thanks to tolerance of gays

Well, I wasn't poor & I'm not black. Your claim was about liberal politicians promoting single parenthood among their constituents. Did you really believe that all liberal constituents are poor blacks? We're not. Really!

If the species is to survive, we can't let gays marry.

Infertile straight couples can still get married, but it's a close call. But then again, I'm sorta permissive on this. I know marriage is only for procreation but if their heart's in the right place, we should still let em marry even if they can't reproduce and perpetuate the race. Unless they're gay

The conservatives will tell you that because a single mom can still get welfare benefits even when she's not married, this will encourage people to not get married and have even more kids. In their view the govt should be more active in forcing people to stay married if they want their govt cheese. In other words, this is one of those instances where conservatives favor govt intrusion and govt social engineering, because they view 1950's-style Ozzie & Harriet families as the evolutionary high point of society which will never be topped. Government should be doing whatever it takes to enforce this family structure on society.

Sardis, in my liberal circles, I don't know of any women who opted for single parenthood in order to benefit from these programs. Personally, I think women who benefit from such programs should abstain from sex.

I would put my knowledge of the Bible up against most true believers. My love of the Book of Leviticus is well known. I will look for any chance to discuss the high comedy therein (as well as select readings from Exodus, Genesis, Kings and a few others - it's great reading). I ask that you indulge and excuse me when I seek out opportunities to insert the teachings it contains.

Otherwise, I agree with most of what you say. There are far more serious matters to be concerned about wrt marriage and family. And I've conceded from the onset that same-sex religions are anathema to the practitioners of Judeo-Christian religions.
AA,

You are most certainly an intelligent fellow; however, the mere fact that you concentrate on certain passages in the Old Testament, alone, to determine proper Christian Biblical adherence shows lack of understanding of the Bible as whole. If your beef was with Orthodox Jews then you may have a point; however, Christianity is not bound by many of the laws in the Old Testament since many were specific for that time before the Messiah. Jesus himself reinforced many, but also refuted many. Christians follow the teachings of Christ and his apostles first and foremost.

In wealthy and middle class liberal circles I won't dispute you, but with the poor it's prevalent. I work with low income people through my church and if the father marries the mother of his child they will lose benefits as opposed to just living together. Also, the more kids they have, the more benefits they receive.

Actually, in the past 20 years or so, single parenthood has increased significantly among the wealthy & middle class. It's no longer considered a stigma to be a single parent. But the rise is not due to liberal government programs.

Easy divorce helped raise single parenthood. So what we need to do is make it nearly impossible to divorce. Or at least, make it easy for a man but next to impossible for the woman. Which is the way it was back in the good old days. And the husband assumes ownership of all his wife's possessions and dowry upon marriage. Tradional marriage, baby. Let's make it happen

Gibbon actually blamed the spread of Christianity, more than any other factor, for the downfall of the Roman Empire. But then again, he was a raging atheist Jacobin homo writing in the Age of Enlightenment AKA The Age of Anti-Christian Hatred

What policies encourage single parenthood?
welfare for single moms

WIC coupons for single moms

government paid housing for single moms

these policies "encourage" single parenthood.

As Toem said, you were asleep through the 60s up until now.

irrelevant. Neither you (nor your liberal circles) are the marginal case.

Ann Coulter made this argument against single parenting on The View and she was ruthlessly lambasted for it. Whether single moms benefiting from these subsidies and checks should abstain from sex, is not going to make them do so. Your willful ignorance of the reality of this situation, I find troubling.

God damned Civil Rights acts! Negro families were better off in their own separate but more or less equal facilities!
