I don't think that applies anymore.

as long as they go to class the entire semester and make decent grades this can continue on.

So there's no minimum graduation rate requirement anymore?

I'm pretty sure that doesn't count against APR score anymore or whatever its called

a couple of interesting rumors are floating around

1. WKU is in the midst of a point shaving scandal

2. Pitino has dropped anywhere from $200K to $800K to keep the assistant coach who paid the hookers quiet.

the second is coming being danced around by Matt Jones who is very well connected to some people that are very disgruntled with UL and are in the middle of it

the first is coming from people who are in tight with a Xavier Assistant coach who is interviewing for the WKU job.

also, a Louisville fan is naming names and says Steve Masiello is going to get caught up in the Katina trap as well as the money man, a guy named J.D. Nichols.

A few years ago there was a requirement that teams had to graduate a certain percentage of players or it would affect scholarship numbers. If that has changed, there's no impediment whatsoever to the OAD system, except of course, just starting over each year with mostly freshmen. Since we only cover our local D-II college team, I really haven't kept up with NCAA Div. I stuff in recent years so I don't know if that's the case anymore.

In fact, it was the graduation requirement that put UNC in the position to keep its athletes moving through the system, which as we see, was not really working for anybody. So if the NCAA changed that, I can see why.

Pitino should have spent some of that money on Katina, or whoever that chick on FB is.

I'm pretty sure that was called the 3/5ths rule or something like that - and its been dropped. Now the rule is you can lose however many you lose, but if they quit going to class and tank your GPA you're in trouble.

So you're saying LSU is in trouble.

probably but who knows

I'm not sure they'll be getting any recruits that matter down the road for awhile anyways

If that is true, the irony of it is equally funny and painful.

" The McDonald's All-Americans that Calipari recruits each season elect to play at Kentucky because they know Calipari will prepare them for the NBA without expecting them to stick around longer than they have to, or feeling slighted when they do."

Not sure about the preparing them for the NBA part (no more than any other elite coach, anyway), but the rest is certainly true...

No coach can prepare a kid for the NBA on court wise in one year. Either ya got it right away or you don't. He has created a great pipeline to the cash though. Don't eat spoiled cheese.

Yep. For some recruits, playing at UK will help their profile. For the really big-time players, any major program will do. For the ones who don't, it doesn't matter. But kids are stupid and they think playing 1 year for this coach or that will help them raise their NBA profile.

How did Paige do at UNC?

He was a top 15 recruit so he's about where he was coming in. I doubt he'll be a 1st-rd pick and he wouldn't have been at any time. Johnson probably got better as a college player but that's not because he went to Carolina.

A player like Johnson would've been stuck on the bench at UK for 4 years, playing behind the latest high school studs every year. Probably wouldn't have gotten drafted if he was at UK, now he'll likely be a lottery pick. But of course, highly ranked high school kids don't want to hear "you're not ready for the league now or next year and maybe not until the year after that or the year after that"...

Cal would have pushed him to declare after his freshman year, just like he does all the others......

Ulis was projected to be a 4 year guy at UK.

don't underestimate the value of practicing day in and day out with talent

No one would have though Willis had NBA potential - he's shooting 3 pointers at a 44% clip. He's coming back but if he can improve his footwork (i.e. stop being a slow white guy) - he'll be playing pro ball.

I don't know how Johnson would have fared at UK - the question is would he have been pursued? But you can't say Paige was #15 coming in (or whatever) and then try to justify him being a 4 guy as a normal expectation/process for kids today.

Marcus Paige was the #28 recruit in the Recruiting Services Consensus Index in the Class of 2012:

https://sites.google.com/site/rscihoops ... 012-summer

We've had our share of draft busts under Roy, but Marcus wasn't a one and done candidate. Of course, he would've made a lot more money if he'd left after his sophomore season. But he is one of the few that values college these days (insert UNC AFAM scandal joke here).
