Re: Puterbac News Network and Political Discussion Thread
It was well known that Bergdahl was a deserter. It was quickly reported by his platoon members that he left his rifle, mailed his uniform home, and wandered off on his own. (According to Susan Rice, he served with honor and distinction on a youtube video.)
He chose to leave his fellow soldiers, his Army, his country and his honor and go live with the Taliban. We should have honored his choice and let him live out the rest of his miserable life as a guest of the religion of peace. We shouldn't have traded 5 rotten fish heads for him.

Did you serve in the military?Professor Tiger wrote:It was well known that Bergdahl was a deserter. During a press conference later, O'Mara was asked if he had any advice for Zimmerman, and he answered, "Pay me."

Yeah, he was a career Army guy. Chaplain services.
I think he was kicked out for being an apostate.

Close. I was a combat engineer before I was a chaplain. I did 9 years active duty and 12 in the reserves/national guard. I was in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom, including a little time in Afghanistan.

it's "Ahh, The Apostate Preacher Returns!"
I would usually say it when Prof would spew hateful, vindictive gossip or when he would use vile profanity.

'Better' isn't up for debate.
The realities of the past are immutable. We can call the grand old oak whatever we wish, but our weak incantations of imagination remain unheard, unanswered; and the nature of what was still remains... untouched and unchanged.

I'm surprised by your stance, then. Most of the guys I served with are of the "bring him back here and hang him" ilk, rather than the "leave him with his towel head friends" group.Professor Tiger wrote:Close. I'm glad we brought him home, and if he is a deserter, I'll be glad when he's imprisoned.

Yep. If we weren't going to try them and execute them, they were just sucking up valuable resources. None of those guys have seen the light of day in at least a dozen years. Pre-Facebook/Twitter, etc. Most of them will be trying to find their wives and children.10ac wrote:Are you glad we released 5 Taliban "generals" back onto the battlefield?

They haven't seen the light of day? Sniff. Gitmo is nice and sunny. The released AQ commanders will miss the abundant warmth and sunshine, three square meals a day, exercise room, cable TV, air conditioning, stocked library, throwing feces at the guards, and the complete freedom to practice their religion. Nobody set them on fire or beheaded them.None of those guys have seen the light of day in at least a dozen years. Pre-Facebook/Twitter, etc.

Dude. I was in Gitmo in 83. Place was a pesthole and the most excitement came when a couple of jarheads attempted to high dive off of the cliffs and dashed themselves against the rocks, killing themselves. The three squares probably didn't stay down, what with the waterboarding, etc.Professor Tiger wrote:They haven't seen the light of day? Sniff. Gitmo is nice and sunny. Camp Seven, also known as Camp Platinum, is an isolated outpost, strictly off-limits from the Pentagon's media tour.[17] A group of six mostly military lawyers representing prisoners at Camp seven concluded in February 2012 that the conditions at the camp fall short of the minimum guarantees of humane treatment under the Geneva Conventions.[18]
