He came and visited my workplace a few years ago when I lived in IL. The women all swooned at him. They were devastated when they found out he's gay.

Yes, wanting to decorate your office to look like Downton Abbey is what we call officially "coming out".

He also liked being photographed shirtless almost as much as Putin.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I remember when he compared Abu Graib to Auchwitz. He's not real good at analogies.

Nearly all news outlets describe Durbin's remarks on Lynch as an inference of racism by the GOP. Heh - whereas Rush Limbaugh's website headline's "Dick Durbin's Racist Statement." sardis sure loves him some Rush..

How is that statement racist on Durbin's part? If you're going to call that racist, you might as well call the nominee's name racist...

I don't listen to Rush, I work for a living. But I guess you do, so you can fill me in.
Of course, Durbin was inferring racism by the GOP by being racist himself. The only way the GOP could possibly be against a black Attorney General is because he/she is black. Not because of her interpretations of the law or her political beliefs, but because she is black.
Of course, when Senator Durbin voted "no" on Condoleezza Rice's nomination for Secretary of State, it wasn't because of racism....Oh no, it was the issues!

Using the metaphor of "being put on the back of the bus" isn't necessarily racist, although obviously that was case in the original instance. But it could apply to anyone who is being treated unfairly. Clearly when using it in the case of a black woman, the original instance of the term comes more sharply into focus, which I'm sure was Durbin's intent. In short, it was a good way to sass the repubs...

Debbie Wasserman Schultz also recently said some Republican was "Giving women the back of the hand." Part of the Dem "war on women" meme, along with the eternal race card.
I agree with hedge that Dem accusations of racism, sexism, homophobia etc. are largely done just to watch the R's have seizures as a result. It also handily ends any debates on race and gender that the Dem's sense that they are losing.

In short, a sound Machiavellian strategy. In the Goat Pen, we used to call that the Mecca Reversal (or the Mecca Subterfuge, I get them confused)...

The equivalent accusations that the R's used on the D's was that they are soft on crime, weak on defense, and aren't patriotic.
The latter evoked this petit mal reaction from then-Senator Clinton:
